Reaching The End of Self
In the last chapter of Habakkuk’s writings, he gives up.
He reaches the end of all of his complaints. He surrenders to the sovereignty of God.
And he finds out that the only way to have fullness of joy is to fully trust that God’s plan is good.
But, even more than that, trust that God is good.
Did you get that?.
Give up the control, give up the worry, give up the doubt, give up the line in the sand you have drawn, give up the fear…
When you reach the end of yourself, you will find The LORD standing there waiting for you to surrender it all and just trust him on this.
Habakkuk trusted God’s plan over his own. Even if it meant calamity, even if he feared God’s judgment or disagreed with it; even if he still didn’t completely understand it, by saying “yet I will quietly wait,”
At that moment, Habakkuk surrenders.In spite of the circumstances, Habakkuk learned that the only true joy is the Maker of joy.
In the midst of suffering, in chaos, and in hurt, Habakkuk learned to find the fullness of joy means trusting in the fullness of God.
God is asking for you to throw up the white flag in surrender today.
He wants you to reach that same place of trust. He will not only give you the strength to walk through the suffering, but walk through the suffering with joy if you will let him.
It took Habakkuk a while, it takes me a while and it may take you a while. It is an everyday struggle sometimes to surrender some things that we want so much to fix ourselves.
Habakkuk found the end of himself. He surrendered it all.
So I speak these words into your spirit and life today: No more lines in the sand — No more complaints — No more doubts. Just God!
When there is nothing left. When you are at the utter end of yourself, there is nothing left, but God. And in God there is joy unspeakable….
“Though the fig tree may not blossom,
Nor fruit be on the vines;
Though the labor of the olive may fail,
And the fields yield no food;
Though the flock may be cut off from the fold,
And there be no herd in the stalls —
Yet I will rejoice in The LORD,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.
The LORD God is my strength;
He will make my feet like deer’s feet,
And He will make me walk on my high hills.”
Habakkuk 3:17-19
