The Court of Men, Court of Angels and the Court of God
There are matters for adjudication that are considered of lesser weight, and are left for brethren to whom authority is given to preside and judge over.
The Scriptures reveal the response The LORD Jesus gave to someone who came to him, wanting him to preside over matter of family inheritances.
Here’s what Jesus said,
“And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?” Luke 12:13-14.
The same Jesus that said this is one who said,
“For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: that all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.” John 5:22-23.
This is not a contradiction, rather The LORD Jesus was revealing that there is a process for adjudication of matters in The Kingdom.
As we have in the natural amongst Nations, there are matters reserved to be addressed at the magistrate and district courts level, some are to be addressed at the state and appeal courts, and only weighty matters are allowed to advance to the Supreme Court. So it is in The Kingdom.
Hence The LORD Jesus instructed regarding dealing with matters of lesser weight regarding the brethren and kindred, He said,
“Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee, Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way, first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift,” Matthews 5:23-24.
The writer of Hebrews tells us this,
“Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you,” Hebrews 13:17.
The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 13,
“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? Do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same, for he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid, for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil,” Romans 13:1-4.
At this level of adjudication, The Kingdom recognizes those to whom it has given authority to lead, rule and enforce ordinances — stating that they bear a sword, and do not bear it in vain.
They may be those set over families, assemblies, cities, organizations and peoples across spheres.
The Apostle Jude leaves us a note of warning regarding those who despise this level of authority, thinking they are at liberty to speak to them as they please,
“Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The LORD rebuke thee. But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves,” Jude 1:8-9.
The Heavenly Court of Angels
In another place, Apostle Paul revealed another hierarchy of adjudication — The Angelic Court.
The Scripture shows that The Law was given and ordained by Angels, meaning there was an Angelic Court that presided over The Law and its enforcement behind the scenes.
In the process of ordaining The Law, The LORD God Almighty spoke to Moses saying,
“Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not, for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him. But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.” Exodus 23:20-22.
We see this Angelic Court at work when the matter regarding Nebuchadnezzar was being deliberated and judgment passed,
The Watcher Angel that showed up in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream made it clear, that the judgment was by the decree of The Watchers, by the demand [deliberation] of the Holy Ones.
“This matter is by the decree of the Watchers, and the demand by the word of the Holy Ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.” Daniel 4:17.
Like the appeal court in Nations, this Angelic Court had its jurisdiction and there were matters it was given the right to preside over.
When Balaam was hired by Balak to curse the Israelites, we see how the Angel sprung into action and was ready to strike Balaam even without seeking approval from God!
As a matter of fact, God Himself had to intervene through the donkey, saving Balaam from being struck.
“And God’s anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of The LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him. And the ass saw the angel of The LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way. But the angel of The LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side. And when the ass saw the angel of The LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam’s foot against the wall: and he smote her again. And the angel of The LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left. And when the ass saw the angel of The LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam’s anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff. And The LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?” Numbers 22:22-28.
The Court of God as the Judge of All
The LORD Jesus spoke about the coming of and ministry of The Holy Spirit,
“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever, Even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him, for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” John 14:16-17
Of which Paul The Apostle warned us saying,
“And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption,” Ephesians 4:30.
The writer in Hebrews warned also against despising the Ministry and Administration of The Spirit Of Grace, warning that it is a fearful thing to fall into the Hands of God.
“Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith The LORD. And again, The LORD shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Hebrews 10:29-31.
There are matters that transcend the jurisdiction of the court of public opinion, transcend the jurisdiction of the rulers over men, and transcend the jurisdiction of the Angelic Court.
As it is in the natural, matters can progress quickly from the rule of men, to the Highest Court where The Almighty Himself presides and renders justice.
We see this in the case of Moses, who was made ruler over the congregation of Israel, and over Korah and the rest of those who rebelled against the authority of Moses.
When they despised the authority of Moses, the matter was escalated, and The LORD Himself came in to judge the matter Himself!
“And Moses said unto Korah, Be thou and all thy company before The LORD, thou, and they, and Aaron, to morrow: And take every man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring ye before The LORD every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers, thou also, and Aaron, each of you his censer.” Numbers 16:16-17.
We know how The LORD visited and judged the company of Korah by a great judgment.
“The LORD Jesus Christ admonished saying, “Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him, lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing”.” Matthews 5:23-26. [farthing = smallest valued coin]
Many times we despise the authority of men set over us, thinking we are at liberty to speak evil of dignities.
The Scripture shows that when we do, we simply provoke an escalation, and the matter that should have been handled easily amongst the brethren quickly advances to the desk of The Almighty who is the Judge of all — and at that point as The LORD Jesus said — “thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing”.
The Prophet Daniel recorded a profound vision of The Ancient Of Days sitting as a Judge,
“I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened,” Daniel 7:9-10.
We see this also as The Great White Throne,
“And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away, and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God, and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works,” Revelations 20:11-12.
It is at this point all creature, both men, angels, spirits and demons are weighed, determined and judged.
“But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,” Hebrews 12:22-23.
It is foolish to rebel against the authority of the men that God raised and put over you, only for you to fall into the hands of God.
