Prophecies Need to Be Acted Upon
Prophecies Need to Be Acted Upon
Not Just Listened To…..
“The people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.” Daniel 11:32b NKJV.
The following are a few biblical examples of God’s promises that needed to be acted upon and not just listened to:
I. The promise that Solomon would be king after David
II. The promise that God would give the land “flowing with milk and honey” to His Own People
Thus, although The LORD promised David that His son from Bathsheba would be his heir, there was enormous opposition by the enemy against the fulfillment of that very promise.
First, by way of his son Absalom, who illegally took over David’s throne (see 2 Samuel 15:1-37) and then after David’s return to his throne in Jerusalem, by way of Adonijah, his other son.
Adonijah went against the express promise and will of God, and exalted himself as the next king of Israel (see 1 Kings 1:1-27).
Since David had God’s promise on his side, he was willing to take action to realize this promise — irrespective of opposition — rather than just pray that God would see him through at His chosen time!
This is so crucial in relation to us today. Too many Christians believe that because The LORD has made a promise, there is no need for us to affirm the belief in God’s promise by our God-inspired action!
However, this belief is contradicted in both cases mentioned above – immediate action was vital to realizing God’s promise!
Case 1 — David as the anointed King and Solomon as his rightful heir
David’s men had to fight for David against the illegal usurper Absalom, as seen in 2 Samuel 18:1-8, to bring the rightful king back to his God-appointed throne.
Secondly, the priest Zadok and the Prophet Nathan, as well as Bathsheba, the mother of Solomon, went to the King David when he was already very old to intercede and to overturn Adonijah’s illegal usurpation.
Thus, David was stirred to act on Solomon’s behalf by putting him on the royal mule to be anointed as the true heir to his throne. See 1 Kings 1:1-47.
Case 2 – Canaan as the Promised Land of the Israelites
When God promised His people, Israel, even under oath, that He would give them “His land overflowing with milk and honey” He intended for His people to so firmly believe in His promise that they — due to their faith in Him — would be willing to fight for every meter of this land.
God who promised to give them His land, spoke of the milk and honey but not of the giants and fortifications that were awaiting them in opposition to God’s promise.
Therefore, only Joshua and Caleb fully believed and fought for The LORD’s will and thus inherited the promised land while the others never saw this promise fulfilled in their lives but forfeited God’s promise and died in the desert!
Thus, with all the wonderful positive ringing prophecies which we hear from many sources all over the world today about what God is promising to do, I can only say that if these prophecies are really from God, then they surely need to be acted upon, and not just believed in!
May God show us His way by His Holy Spirit what He wants each one of us to do to see His Word and promise fulfilled!
