Praying Over Prophetic Words
There are many strategies for prayer given throughout the Bible, especially as it relates to spiritual warfare.
It’s important that we discern what strategies are applicable to the situation we are facing or what season we are in.
Prophetic words release direction, instruction, faith, miracles, healing, hope and deliverance.
Therefore, it’s important to pray over the prophetic words that have been released to you.
Remember, we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but we do wrestle against spiritual wickedness in high places.
There are powers in hell that are assigned to delay and detour you so that the prophecy over your life will not come to fruition.
The Apostle Paul sets a great example through his dialogue with Timothy about waging war over the prophetic:
“Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well, holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith. Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme,” 1 Timothy 1:18-20 NIV.
Here are a few strategies that will aid you as journey through life and apply the prophecies given to you as a road map to your assigned destination.
1. Ask for confirmation
“Then he said to me, “Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words. The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days, but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia and came to make you understand what is to happen to your people in the latter days. For the vision is for days yet to come,” Daniel 10:12-13 ESV.
Daniel’s persistence in prayer caused an angel to respond. I’m not sure if you knew this or not, but your prayers move God!
The confirmation that came forth as a result of Daniel praying gave him for insight and fuel to continue doing the work of the LORD.
Asking God to confirm his word may release more revelation that will combat the lies of the enemy. In my humble opinion, confirmation puts doubt to rest.
However, it is important we learn how to move when God speaks or reveals without question.
Instant obedience releases provision because anytime God gives an assignment, provision accompanies it.
Look for God to confirm the prophetic words given to you through scripture, conversation, angelic visitation, billboards, music… God can use anything to deliver His Word.
Remember Balaam and the donkey (Numbers 22:21-39 ESV)?
In other words, don’t limit God’s ability to ensure that you complete your assignment in the earth… without detours.
For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter: 1:21).
2. Exercise Self-Control
Anxiety can get the best of us, especially when we are waiting for God to fulfill his promises. Here are some harsh truths even I have to recite:
- God does not need helping keeping time.
- Anxiety is not a spiritual gift, self-control is.
- Worry will not make God move faster.
If we were to be honest, anxiety is often derived from our fear that God will not do what he promised.
You can not pray effectively from a place of fear or anxiety, which is why you have to bring your emotions and feelings under the subjection of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is a person that is bigger and smarter than your feelings and emotions. Allow the person of the Holy Spirit is strengthen you so that you will not allow the voice of the enemy to distort what God has already said concerning you.
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7 ESV).
3. Keep decreeing
You have to say what you heard until you see what you said.
Rehearse the promises of God in your heart, mind and even aloud.
It may be helpful to write down the promises of God and then decree them at a specific time of day. In times of immense warfare, I have found that decreeing the promises of God multiple times of day not only shifted the situation, it shifted me!
Many of the prophetic words that we are waiting to manifest in our lives are actually waiting on us to align ourselves to the plan of God.
Don’t take your declarations lightly, there is power in your tongue!
Stop allowing lack, doubt, fear and frustration to shut your mouth. Your decree is weapon.
On a personal note, I’ve received some prophetic words that seemed so unattainable. But as time progressed, I noticed how God changed me so that I can become the woman he said that I was.
Honestly, most of the prophetic words I have received make more sense in hindsight. But, I want to encourage you to declare the things of God, even when they don’t make sense because all things really do work together.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things,” Philippians 4:8 ESV.

Yes and Amen
Thank you for this brilliant, timely word! I’ve been waiting 19 yrs and 1 month for a prophetic promise to come to fruition. My heart is weakened to the point of not knowing how to beat faith for this promise anymore. I am beyond tired. But today I’ll get up and try again, thanks to these encouraging words. Bless you and thank you Dee!
