Philip Period: Only Do What THE LORD Directs Where, When & How
“For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through The Patience and Comfort of The Scriptures might have hope.” Romans 15:4.
Two major things are for our learning as revealed in Scripture when Philip was assigned to minister to the man of Ethiopia, the eunuch.
He was:
- First directed by an angel of THE LORD, and then
- Commanded by THE HOLY SPIRIT.
‘Now an angel of THE LORD spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is desert. So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship, was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet. Then THE SPIRIT said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.” ‘ Acts 8:26-29.
This is The Spiritual Order in The Kingdom of GOD:
- The assistance of the holy angels AND
- The Help of THE HOLY SPIRIT.
Angels, and then THE SPIRIT Himself. Angels herald THE LORD, (1 Thessalonians 4:16). THE LORD is THE SPIRIT, (2 Corinthians 3:17).
We must always pray and ask THE LORD to direct us by His holy angels and be led by His HOLY SPIRIT to do His Will daily.
A note about dealing with angels
NB. Contrary to the dangerous error taught by some, WE don’t directly ask angels to do things for us. We ask THE LORD OF HOSTS to let His angels serve for us as we have need. HE is in charge of the angels. We ask THE BOSS for their service.
Apart from asking THE LORD for angelic assistance, when we declare The Word as led by THE HOLY SPIRIT, the angels heed The Word of THE LORD and act for us, (Psalm 107:20).
The danger is that, ‘asking angels’ to do things for one, can actually be an invitation to demons!
This is because it is unScriptural to do so. And unScriptural acts attract the angels who sinned.
The only thing I know in Scripture that we ask the holy angels to do is to bless THE LORD, yes praise Him.
“Bless THE LORD, you His angels…” Psalm 103:20.
“Praise Him, all His angels; Praise Him, all His hosts!” Psalm 148:2.
Speed and overtaking anointing
Now, in addition to asking THE LORD to let His angels assist us, we must also ask that THE HOLY SPIRIT directs us, instructs us, yes, command, guide and guard us, power and empower us to fulfill His Purpose exactly as He did with Philip.
“Then THE SPIRIT said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.” Acts 8:29.
Think about that. A man running and overtaking a chariot!
Please get this. The eunuch was riding in a chariot from Jerusalem in the middle east to Ethiopia in Africa, a journey of many hundreds of miles.
As the Treasury Secretary / Chancellor of the Exchequer / Minister of Finance of his country, he would have been riding in a very expensive chariot (equivalent to a luxury SUV or other vehicle today).
Being at the very early stages of the journey without much exhaustion and thirst, and on a desert road, the chariot horse(s) in harness would have been SPEEDING at the fastest gait – cantering and galloping on the desert road.
Yet Philip was able to run and overtake the chariot — by The Power of THE HOLY SPIRIT. Hallelu-YAH!
With The Command, Empowerment and Powering of THE SPIRIT, Philip had great success undertaking his assignment, and very quickly too.
As THE LORD lives, those who believe and obey will be used exactly like this both in the flesh and spirit, and even more dramatically in these final hours of the last days.
GOD is so amazing, He is beyond amazing. His wonderful Plans and Foreknowledge are just that: WONDERFUL.
Philip was sent by THE LORD to run to, overtake and minister The Gospel in a chariot.
Philip is the English version of the Greek name Philippos. It is formed from philein “to love” and hippos “horse”.
Horses symbolise speed, race, power, war.
JESUS CHRIST, Him Who loved us, came to war with the enemy on our behalf, conquered sin and death, disarmed the principalities and powers, triumphing over them in THE CROSS.
The equine symbolism doesn’t end there.
Days before He was crucified for us, THE LORD rode into Jerusalem on a donkey with Divine Majesty and Pageantry.
Thus, when JESUS came to save men’s lives (Luke 9:56), yes, bear our burdens, He sat on a donkey — a beast of burden.
At the end of days, THE LORD OF GLORY will return, and in Righteousness judge and make war sitting on a White Horse (Revelation 19:11).
Thus, Philip’s name and assignment were of great evangelistic and eschatological significance.
As Philip was chosen, named, appointed, anointed, and used in that hour, so are we chosen, named, appointed, anointed, and being used in this hour – out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation.
By THE SPIRIT, we are now being literally POWERED and empowered to do great exploits of speed and power in the flesh and spirit that no amount of horsepower engineering by man can ever achieve.
Merriam-Webster Dictionary has amazing definitions of power as a verb:
power : verb
powered; powering; powers
transitive verb
1 : to supply with power and especially motive power
2 : to give impetus to
intransitive verb
1 : to move about by means of motive power
2 : to move with great speed or force
Love, speed, race, power, war
THE HOLY SPIRIT is doing and will do all of the above and far above all – both in the flesh and spirit as we press in, are attentive and sensitive to His Bidding, and yield to Him.
Like Philip one has to avail himself every moment to THE LORD in this Philip Period, to be used by Him – even at short notice.
As “a good soldier of JESUS CHRIST” (2 Timothy 2:3) one must always be willing and able, ready and available to be used by Him for His Purpose. Like Philip.
This must be done with GOD’s Love, Speed, and Power – running the race, and waging the good warfare, “strong in THE LORD and in The Power of His Might.” (Ephesians 6:10).
“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.” 1 Corinthians 9:24-27.
“But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from THE LORD JESUS, to testify to The Gospel of The Grace of GOD.” Acts 20:24.
THE LORD OF HEAVEN AND EARTH knows all the earth and all addresses on the earth. He has The Plan. He can give us directions to, and take us, anywhere we need to go according to His Will.
Specific, precise instructions, directions and locations are being given by THE HOLY SPIRIT all the time.
In Revelation 2 and 3, THE LORD repeatedly said: “He who has an ear, let him hear what THE SPIRIT says to The Churches.”
We must be tuned in to hear and obey.
We must always be within “[our] preappointed times and the boundaries of [our] dwellings” (Acts 17:26) at The Voice of THE LORD to be blessed by GOD and fulfill His “Eternal Purpose” “according to His Own Purpose and Grace Which was given to us in CHRIST JESUS before time began” (Ephesians 3:11; 2 Timothy 1:9).
Therefore, pray: “LORD, in JESUS’ NAME, as Philip ran and overtook the chariot of the eunuch by The Power of THE HOLY SPIRIT, grant me to likewise run, and obtain the crown by The Power of THE HOLY SPIRIT. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air.
Thank You JESUS. Amen.”
“Now may THE GOD OF HOPE fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by The Power of THE HOLY SPIRIT.” Romans 15:13.
“The LORD Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.” 2 Timothy 4:22.

Like John, I like to put my head to The Heart of JESUS so as to know and do His Will always. What’s in His Heart is what matters now and FOREVER. His Heart’s Desire is my only desire.
As John was, I am the disciple whom JESUS loves, (John 13:23;19:26; 20:2; 21:7,20)
And like Paul, Jacob is “the prisoner of CHRIST JESUS” (Ephesians 3:1) for His Purpose forever: to obey Him always.
NB. Surely, “the disciple whom JESUS loves” and “the prisoner of CHRIST JESUS”, like ALL The Promises of GOD, are available to every believer to obtain, just as John and Paul did.
“And having been perfected, He became The Author of Eternal Salvation to all who obey Him,” Hebrews 5:9.
