Peeling Back the Layers of an Onion
“Pilate therefore said unto Him, “Art thou a king then?” Jesus answered, “Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth My voice.” Pilate said unto Him, “What is truth?” And when he said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and said unto them, “I find in him no fault at all,” John 18:37-38.
When one picks up an onion they soon find out that there are several layers in it.
In order to even use it one has to begin carefully peeling back a layer, and then soon enough this layer isn’t always enough for one to use.
For now, what was the very first layer has exposed yet one more layer and it in turn, becomes another.
One can then begin cutting the onion in pieces to use for cooking, but if one decides to continue the process of exposing the underlying layers, this could go on and on for some time.
You see, I think this is very much like how one may arrive at the truth. Certainly there are many different religions and philosophies in this world in which we live, and yet I believe they are just one very simple layer upon an onion.
For there are many flaws in the world’s religions and with careful examination the layer upon which we stand, is actually quite thin.
Certainly there are certain standards and principles upon which they adhere to, but their layer is but a fragment, and aren’t really the inner core.
To arrive at the truth, the underlying core of something, often one needs to peel back the various opinions and hearsays of what people have said or thought.
When Jesus was before Pilate he was asked, “What is the truth?”
And you see, Pilate was a man not unlike many of us, who needed answers to the perplexing questions that many of us have in this life.
The apostle Thomas knew that Jesus was to go soon from them, and he was troubled by many things and wondered about them.
““And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.”
Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
Jesus saith unto him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me,”“ John 14:3-6.
In this instance, He told Thomas that He “was the way, the truth, and the life.” You see, He personifies the inner core of the onion.
The other layers may well propose a certain way to arrive at the truth, but they don’t embody the person of Christ.
There is not only truth embodied in the person of Christ but He shows the way of arriving at the truth. There is life in Him, and that life is the light of men.
Peel back the layers of your life and then perhaps you will see at the center there is an inner core and there resides the person that embodies the truth that you seek.

Stephen Hanson of In His Truth Ministries came to the LORD is a special way in 1975 and has prophesied regularly since. In these end-time birthing pangs we are reminded that judgment must first begin with the household of God. Will we be prepared and ready?
Amen.
Bless you Stephen.
