Passing the Torch
In the Bible we read about men and women of God whose mantles or ministries were passed to the next generation.
Moses had an extraordinary ministry with miracles, signs and wonders. The LORD spoke to Moses through a burning bush.
He used Moses to send plagues on Pharaoh and all of Egypt. He gave Moses authority to part the Red Sea and millions of the Israelites went through on dry land, but Pharaoh and his army drowned as they tried to pursue them.
After Moses died, his ministry was passed on to Joshua. The LORD said to Joshua “no man will be able to stand against you, as I was with Moses, I will be with you”.
The LORD promised to give Joshua the land that he promised Moses. He told Joshua three times in chapter one “Be strong and very courageous”.
The book of Joshua goes on to say how they crossed over the Jordan on dry land as the priests led them carrying the Ark of the Covenant.
Elijahs mantle was passed to Elisha. After Elisha had been serving and following Elijah for some time Elijah asked him; what may I do for you before I am taken away?
Elisha responded; I want a double portion of your Spirit (anointing). This word for spirit in the original Hebrew context is ruwach which is breath, wind, spirit. It is referring to the living breath of God, a living mantle.
Elijah replied, if you see me when I am taken from you it shall be so. Soon after, a chariot of fire with horses of fire appeared, separated them and took Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind.
His mantle fell upon Elisha and he received a double portion of Elijah’s anointing. Elisha’s ministry did not began until Elijah’s ministry ended. The double portion mantle was then passed to him.
History speaks about many men and women of God who walked in a supernatural anointing. There were revivalists such as AA Alan, Smiths Wigglesworth, John G Lake, John Alexander Dowie, William Brenham, William Seymour, Aimee Semple McPherson, Kathryn Kuhlman, Maria Woodworth Etter, Charles Finney, Even Roberts, Jack Coe, and many others who were used in ministries of miracles, signs and wonders.
In their revival meetings people were healed of terminal diseases, the blind received their sight, the crippled walked and even paralyzed people were healed.
In Maria Woodworth Etter’s day most Churches didn’t allow women to be ministers. In her meetings some people went into trances and visions for hours.
The anointing of God was even felt for miles away, and many people were healed in their homes. This was before the internet.
John G Lake had healing rooms in Spokane Washington where thousands of miracles were documented each year. In and of himself, John G Lake could do nothing, but all of these miracles were done through the Holy Spirit in Jesus name because he knew his authority and carried His anointing.
We are in a season when The LORD is once again raising up men and women to be used in the same way. He is placing His anointing upon us in the courts of Pharaoh.
We are called to be His ambassadors, demonstrate His power, and release His glory. He has placed His rod of authority into our hands, and placed His sword of the Spirit in our mouths.
The LORD is going to use us to deliver others out of Egypt as we see a mass exodus of people released from the kingdom of darkness, and delivered into the Kingdom of light.
We are the generation who will walk in His power and release His glory on this earth as it is in heaven. We are not mere men and women, but we are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation who will release others out of the kingdom of darkness into His marvelous light.
Jesus is calling us to walk in the authority, and receive the anointing and the mantles that He has for us. The LORD is about to do wonders among us. The torch is being passed.
“And Joshua said to the people, “Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow The LORD will do wonders among you,”” Joshua 3:5.
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light,” 1 Peter 2:9.
“Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did,” 1 John 2:6.
Blessings in Christ Jesus,
