Our Work of Service Languishes
We naturally do the work of service with our own families, but through our giving to our Church, to charitable organizations and our paying to the heathens running our country, we tend to delegate it to others.
It is high time for us to do what God created us to do.
God created us in Messiah Jesus to do good works and walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10) He poured out His Holy Spirit to teach us how and to empower us to do them. (Romans 8:1-17; Acts 1:7-8; 2:1-47)
Messiah Jesus gifted equippers to equip us for the work of ministry.
“Now what does this “he went up” mean except that he also had gone down into the lower parts of the earth? The one who went down is the same one who went up above all the heavens so that all things would be fulfilled.
And it is he who gifted some to be apostles, others to be prophets, others to be evangelists, and still others to be pastors and teachers, to equip the saints, to do the work of ministry, and to build up the body of the Messiah until all of us are united in the faith and in the full knowledge of God’s Son, and until we attain mature adulthood and the full standard of development in the Messiah. Then we will no longer be little children, tossed like waves and blown about by every wind of doctrine, by people’s trickery, or by clever strategies that would lead us astray.” Ephesians 4:11-13 ISV.
“…that we may no longer be children, tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error; but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him who is the head, Messiah, from whom all the body, being fitted and knit together through that which every joint supplies, according to the working in measure of each individual part, makes the body increase to the building up of itself in love.” Ephesians 4:14-16 WMB
I looked up delegate and delegated in Bible searches and found it only once and that in the Old Testament.
So, I looked up a synonym, ordain. The Vine’s Dictionary led be to words with similar meaning and led me to the Greek Interlinear which yielded: hōrisen and hōrismenos, which have a different meaning than delegate.
Messiah Jesus put the work of service in kingdom context of you and did.
“But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. And all the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, just as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; and He will put the sheep on His right, but the goats on the left.
Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? And when did we see You as a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? And when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of Mine, you did it for Me.’
Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you accursed people, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’ Then they themselves also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or as a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?’ Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it for one of the least of these, you did not do it for Me, either.’ These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Matthew 25:31-46.
It’s a good thing Jesus counts the work of service we do for family.
“Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of Mine, you did it for Me….”
When Messiah Jesus separates the sheep from the goats, I don’t know if he will accept anything for the work of service but you did it.
