Our Merciful God!
God is not in any means, obligated to treat us mercifully, but HE does!
This is one of the reasons why he is truly number ONE when it comes to honor and fairness!
We get a clear look at the inner depth of who he is, being fully revealed in Jesus, who not only taught that those who are merciful toward others are truly blessed (Matthew 5:7), but he also lived it out to the very end, even while allowing horrible judgment over the sins of mankind, by taking it all on the cross himself.
It was there that he cried out to his Father about those who were responsible for his crucifixion: “Father, forgive them, they don’t know not what they are doing!”
(Luke 23:34).
If this is how God treats us — (and we are all responsible in one way or another for Jesus’ suffering and death,) — how can we not extend his mercy to those around us, especially those who appear to be in the greatest of need?
God saved, redeemed, paid it forward for us according to His own mercy! WOW!
This mercy was displayed by us being washed of the filth from sin by the precious blood of the Lamb of God, and there has been no better display of mercy than what was shown to the world on the cross.
It’s quite a contradiction to act without mercy and claim to be a servant and friend of Christ!
May we be all be found by the ever searching eye of God to be consistent, and pour out mercy humbly, with a deep and soul-searching mindfulness, remembering that we are the recipients of God’s compassion — His Mercy, which is a “mind bending” and lavish treasure.
“He has already told you O man what is good; and what the Lord requires of you. To do justice, and to love kindness (or mercy), and to walk humbly with your God,” Micah 6:8.
