Non-Assurance, Brings Fear!
When a person knows for a fact that he/ she is a child of God and that they are saved, that knowing, is called Assurance.
I have met [in my many years as a minister of the Gospel of Christ] many people who were living in constant fear, just because they did not know for sure, that if they died, they would be truly saved.
Many today also go on daily, striving with their salvation, not really knowing for sure that they would be accepted.
When they are asked about wither or not they would be saved if Jesus came today, they cannot say in their hearts that they are sure, and there is some doubt or question.
Many times I have heard them say something like this: “I hope so.” or “I am trying my best,” or “I have been baptized and am a member of some church,” or “I don’t know for sure.”
This sort of non-assurance will bring fear [fear of divine punishment or being afraid of dying].
One lives in constant fear or dread, because he/ she is constantly wondering if they have done good enough, or if they are totally obedient, etc.
Fear is a terrible result of no assurance.
Listen to this verse talking about fear and see how real assurance is found in the love of Christ Jesus and there is no fear in His Love:
“There is no fear in love [dread does not exist]. But perfect (complete, full-grown) love drives out fear, because fear involves [the expectation of divine] punishment, so the one who is afraid [of God’s judgment] is not perfected in love [has not grown into a sufficient understanding of God’s love],” 1 John 4:18.
The Word of God does say that one may know absolutely for sure he/ she is saved and has been given eternal life.
[Note: The “Know” and have a settled and absolute knowledge that you have eternal life.]
Scriptures say in 1 John 5:13,
“These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the son of God [which represents all that Jesus Christ is and does], so that you will know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that you [already] have eternal life.”
The Word of God has been written by The Holy Spirit and given to man so that they can know for sure about eternal salvation.
That is why it is so important to read and study the Word of God. It will give you assurance and you will never have to wonder or doubt again, but rest in Jesus Christ your savior.
The Word of God says Jesus died to save men from their sins and He was resurrected from the dead, proving your sins [which were the cause of his death] were forgiven [left in the grave].
It is only because of Jesus’ work that a man can know for sure, because if you are trusting your good works to save you, you will never have assurance.
Jesus came to bring life, eternal life, to all who believe in Him and receive Him as their LORD and Salvation.
