Nehemiah, The Rebuilder and Restorer of Jerusalem
A Psalm to praise and sing to God, out loud.
Nehemiah, The Rebuilder and Restorer of Jerusalem
Nehemiah, Nehemiah, Nehemiah
Rebuilder and restorer of Jerusalem
Who prayed to The LORD
And repented for his sinful ways
He reminded The LORD of His Covenant of Love
And asked Him to gather
His Exiled People from the farthest horizon
And bring them to the place He has chosen
As a dwelling for His Name
Jerusalem lay in ruins;
It’s gates burned with fire, its people in disgrace
But God chose Nehemiah to lead His People
To rebuild and restore the city walls
Beam by beam, wall by wall, section by section,
From the Sheep Gate; to the Broad Wall
To the Tower of the Ovens; to the Fountain Gate,
The Wall of Jerusalem slowly rose once again
When enemies heard of the wall rising higher
They came together and plotted
To fight against Nehemiah and Jerusalem
But he told the people not to fear;
To stand guard and keep building
He held fast in his great faith
The God of heaven was on his side
And granted him favor and thwarted his enemies
When Nehemiah heard the outcries of the poor—
Their plight of being charged unjustly of their lands
He stepped up and spoke up
And lessened their hardships
Oh LORD, remember Your Servant Nehemiah
And show favor upon him
For all he has done for the people
For You are a Great and Awesome God
For finally the city was rebuilt
Against all opposition, Nehemiah prevailed
With help from The LORD
When all had been set in place
He dedicated the Wall of Jerusalem
He led the people to ask for forgiveness
And they vowed to honor The House of their God
And they celebrated joyfully with songs of thanksgiving
Nehemiah, Nehemiah, Nehemiah
The rebuilder and restorer of Jerusalem
Who, with help from The LORD,
Led the people back to the dwelling for His Name
And His Holy Ways
Oh LORD, remember Nehemiah and his service to Your House
Show him Your Mercy according to Your Great Love
For You are a Great and Awesome God
Remember him with favor
Nehemiah, the rebuilder and restorer of Jerusalem
“Then I said: “Lord, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments,” Nehemiah 1:5.
“but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name,” Nehemiah 1:9.
“Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace,” Nehemiah 2:17.
“So I continued, “What you are doing is not right. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of our Gentile enemies? I and my brothers and my men are also lending the people money and grain. But let us stop charging interest! Give back to them immediately their fields, vineyards, olive groves and houses, and also the interest you are charging them—one percent of the money, grain, new wine and olive oil.”” Nehemiah 5:9-11.
“Those of Israelite descent had separated themselves from all foreigners. They stood in their places and confessed their sins and the sins of their ancestors,” Nehemiah 9:2.
“And on that day they offered great sacrifices, rejoicing because God had given them great joy. The women and children also rejoiced. The sound of rejoicing in Jerusalem could be heard far away,” Nehemiah 12:43.
“Remember me for this, my God, and do not blot out what I have so faithfully done for the house of my God and its services,” Nehemiah 13:14.
“Then I commanded the Levites to purify themselves and go and guard the gates in order to keep the Sabbath day holy. Remember me for this also, my God, and show mercy to me according to your great love,” Nehemiah 13:22.
“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land,” 2 Chronicles 7:14.
“Great is The LORD, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain. Beautiful in its loftiness, the joy of the whole earth, like the heights of Zaphon is Mount Zion, the city of the Great King. God is in her citadels; he has shown himself to be her fortress. When the kings joined forces, when they advanced together, they saw her and were astounded; they fled in terror. Trembling seized them there, pain like that of a woman in labor. You destroyed them like ships of Tarshish shattered by an east wind. As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of The LORD Almighty, in the city of our God: God makes her secure forever. Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love. Like your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with righteousness. Mount Zion rejoices, the villages of Judah are glad because of your judgments. Walk about Zion, go around her, count her towers, consider well her ramparts, view her citadels, that you may tell of them to the next generation. For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end,” Psalm 48:1-14.
