The Names of God
In the times of the Old Testament and under the Old Covenant, God was known by His “characteristics” which were also His name. All Hebrew names had a specific meaning and were seen as a reflection of one’s character. The same applied to God.
Thus, while we under the New Covenant pray to God as Jesus said in Matthew 6:9 “When you pray, say, Our Father,” or in other words, to a relational God, in the Old Testament, a Prayer was based on a covenant of God or as an appeal to an aspect of God’s character.
Thus the hollowing “Names of God” are also a list of the “Characteristics of God.”
