One of the wisest things my mother ever told me was this; “If you see everyone following it, something is wrong with it, and time will always reveal it.”

I relate her saying to these two scriptures…

Jesus said, “The world will hate you because it hated me first,” John 15:18.

Later, James, the brother of Jesus said, “To be a friend of the world is to be an enemy of God,” James 4:4.

The point is, if you see that the world is all getting on the same train, you’d better check with the Holy Spirit before you jump on, because it just might cost you something big in the future.

Remember, light and darkness cannot dwell in the same place together.

The Apostle Peter tells us that we are called to be a peculiar people; a sanctified people. Sanctified is the same word for Holy in Hebrew. It is the word Kodesh, meaning to be “set apart from.”

This means we shouldn’t being running along with the world. We’re living in a time where we will be persecuted for the name of Jesus, just like the first century church.

The world will not stand alongside with us; they will come against us. So if you find that you’re not being persecuted for righteousness sake, you need to check and see who’s side of the tracks you’re really on.
