Reuben means to behold a son.

”When Leah gave birth to Reuben, she explained her choice: “She named him Reuben, for she said, ‘It is because The LORD has seen my misery. Surely my husband will love me now,” Genesis 29:32.

As I was meditating upon The LORD, The LORD began to speak to me that some sins will cause leaders to loose their inheritance!

We know that when David committed sin with Bathsheba God forgave David but still there were severe consequences regarding his sins but one of them that he didn’t suffer was being restored as King.

Why? Because it was up to God what the consequences would be for David shedding innocent blood and stealing a man’s wife!

People, The LORD said to me that in this season He will be the one who makes the final decision regarding whether or not some leaders who fall will be restored back to their rightful inheritance or not! This comes by God and not man, (2 Samuel 11)

Unlike David, Reuben was a great man and he had some great characteristics but he became flawed when he made the mistake of sleeping with with his father’s concubine Bilhah. This act, a serious crime punishable by death, revealed the loss of his earlier integrity.

After Rachel died, Reuben was likely anxious because Jacob had shown favor to her sons over Leah’s. And, he may also have been worried for his mother and thought by sleeping with Bilhah, Reuben was likely challenging his father’s authority and grasping for power to get back at him.

But, nevertheless Jacob was so angry with Reuben that he spoke a prophetic word over his life that God honored that he would {no longer} excel, for you went up onto your father’s bed, onto my couch and defiled it” (Genesis 49:3–4).

Reuben was so put out by his father’s love for Rachel’s children that he failed to live up to the name of his birthright and instead of being a blessing ”to behold” he became a failure in the eyes of his father causing Jacob to curse his inheritance!

People,God honors the mouth of His Prophets and when you make the mistake of causing them great heartbreak (grief and sorrow) they can resend and reverse the blessings spoken over your life!

Reuben never excelled after he betrayed his father by sleeping with his wife! No doubt the rejection his mother felt from the womb was passed on to Reuben trying to compete for his father’s love like Leah did with Rachel that left him both bitter, angry and resentful so he ended up betraying him; instead of loving him!

As an adult, Reuben was one of the more honorable sons of Jacob. He was the first born to be blessed.

And, Reuben saved Joseph’s life when his brothers plotted to kill him; instead he talked the brothers out of murdering Joseph and convinced them to leave him in a pit instead of killing him, (Genesis 37:21–22).

However, all this was in the past because of Reuben’s incest with Bilhah, the tribe eventually lost its place of preeminence as Jacob had prophesied.

No prominent judge, prophet, or ruler came from the tribe of Reuben, and no mention of the tribe, other than the listing in Revelation 5:5, is made in the New Testament.

Touch not god’ anointed and do his prophets no harm is not just a fable people but it is a harsh reality and lesson to be learned!! (1 Chronicles 16:22).
