Living by the Inner Breath of God:

# We learn to obey Him, even when it makes no sense.

It was way back in 1991 when I one day passed by the shop window of a local jeweler in our town.

As I walked passed the window, my eye caught a very unusual and beautiful gold watch. It had a thick woven band and it just stood out from everything else around it. I had never seen such a beautiful piece before.

As I stood there, the door suddenly opened and out came Mr. D’iamato, the owner of the store. Back then I was an evangelist and therefore neatly dressed. This must have given Mr. D’iamato the impression that I could be potential customer.

The truth was that I was living by faith and at the time did not have ten cents to rub together in my pocket. I politely accepted his invitation to come in, not wanting to seem rude and after inquiring which piece I had looked at, he carefully took it out of the display stand and placed it on my wrist.

He explained that it was a limited edition with the woven band and that it was never to be repeated by the specific world renowned brand. I was in a bit of a pickle as I now found myself in sales discussion without the means to purchase the watch.

Again, in aiming to handle the situation as politely as I could, I inquired about the price. “Three thousand” he said. Three thousand Rand [~US$D210], almost thirty years ago, equated to a substantial amount of money!

Back then I filled up my car for forty five rand and a white bread cost one rand thirty five cents!

I thanked him and told him I would have to think about it. Of course I knew that no amount of thinking on my side would ever get me that watch!

As I left the store and he placed the watch back, I took a few seconds still looking at the watch before I left, when all of a sudden I heard the Holy Spirit speaking audibly in me.

He said, “Ask Me for that watch!”

I was a little shaken. Why would The LORD want me to have such an expensive watch, it did not make any sense! So I ignored His voice.

Then moments later He spoke again, “Ask Me for that watch!”

This time His tone was a little more intense. Again I ignored Him, unable to find any logic in what I thought I was hearing (now doubting whether it was Him speaking to me and not my own mind playing games with me).

Then He spoke with FORCE. For the third time He said, “ASK ME FOR THAT WATCH!” with such intensity that I could almost feel His voice vibrating in me.

I responded immediately, I said, “Lord, I ask You for that watch! That is my watch in Jesus’ Name!”

I turned around and walked of, feeling so excited and blessed that I had He had spoken to me and that I had responded. Joy and peace flooded my entire being.

A few minutes later I had forgotten about the watch as I continued on throughout my day.

The next morning I received a message that my brother, who was working for one of the banks in that town, was looking for me. I went to see him and he told me that someone had come looking for me.

He mentioned a name and asked if I knew the person and I did not. He told me that he had arranged for an appointment with this man on my behalf at eleven o’ clock.

I went to meet with him and he introduced himself to me. He told me that he was traveling around the nation to find people who had never claimed their inheritance, and whether I was aware of the fact that my grandfather had left me an amount that was to be kept in trust for me until I would become of age.

He said that the inheritance money was available for me to collect, THREE THOUSAND RAND, on the dot!

It took the Holy Spirit less than twenty four hours to raise the money I needed to have the watch!

I learned to obey His voice! Whether it made sense or not!

EVEN IF WHAT HE SAYS MAKES NO SENSE to your natural mind – JUST DO IT!

Postscript:

I never bought the watch!

We had more demanding needs to take care of at the time and I was grateful for me and my family to he able to meet them.

A lesson had been learned though that would become a foundation in my future walk and relationship with the Holy Spirit life as far as obeying His voice that would be invaluable in my future.
