Letting Go….
I must admit that I have had many seasons in my life when the water level gets just a little over my head….
….. when I’m “bone tired” or a wave of “sneaky grief” crashes over me…..
….. when I thought that I had walked out all of the “steps” of the loss and pain of losing loved ones, and some who were not so loving!
OUCH! I crawl up into my reading and coffee sipping chair at home and just cry out to God, taking each worry, sadness and area of concern in my life and mentally place it all in His hands, saying: “I can’t….(I can’t do or be, or deal with….) but God, You CAN“!
I pray that over and over again until the burden lifts and I am no longer the one carrying the weight of it, but ultimately hand it back to Him.
Often, I had to gut it out in sobs of pain, asking questions, self examining, self doubting, chasing out shame and any heartaches for not being enough for some people, being too much for some people, not being right enough, cool enough and so on!
Yes…. real stuff here reader!
The waves hit all of us! Especially if you have done much personal accountability work with mentors or solid counselors, learning the hard and shocking lessons about letting go and growing in personal truth about hidden issues, or being a scapegoat or doormat for other’s tantrums and lack of their own accountability for wounding or projecting things onto others!
YES! Getting healthy emotionally, spiritually, physically and relationally is HARD WORK!
But! We have a most brilliant Helper…
…Who does not cut corners!
When we recognize that God is GOD … (Oh yeah…. HE SEES IT ALL) and we recognize that we absolutely cannot do it by ourselves in our own strength (even if we think we can), it frees us to put the weight, the burden, the ability on…God.
It’s no longer dependent on us making it happen for others.
We detach. We release.
Miracles, blessings, awakenings, breakthrough…
…Those are from God.
His creation, His ability,
His strength. HIS ALONE.
But, we can be faithful to Him and stand tall in hard seasons, working at remaining free from worry, and putting the weight of pressure on the only One who “CAN”. I can partner with Him with confidence and supernatural strength.
When we finally determine one thing, that we need help, we go back to the basics.
We let God be God….. and God sends us to people who sound like Him, to help us. It humbles us and keeps us from sabotaging real growth.
We can begin once again, to uncover our full identity, our joy, our supernatural strength, from the One who loves us most, who is truly the only One able, the One who can free us from a life of control, striving, weariness, bitterness, narrow thinking, and self-will.
Sometimes, “letting go” means to un-hook, to be un-available to situations that drain joy and peace, to release others to whatever it’s is that they see as a pursuit in their lives, even if you can’t agree.
UN-tie, UN-burden and hand it all to the ONE who will UNderstand the depths of your concerns. He won’t dismiss your heart at all when you are fully raw, authentically humble, and are open to Him.
Letting go is not “giving up”!
It’s actually lifting it all up into the big BIG hands of God who is not only just and true, but who also allows the reaping and sowing in life to occur according to what we choose to control, or choose to release.
Very often I have to speak the following verse out loud to myself in order to reset my priorities and prayers.
Maybe it will help you to take your hands off of some strained relationships or situations that seem terribly tangled and disappointing today.
Perhaps it’s time to get specific help for your situation from others who are there in the plan of God for this season in your life.
Putting your heart out there. Being courageous to get out of our fearful and stuck way of living. It really is worth the Risk!
If your counselor or adviser doesn’t challenge you, lovingly but firmly addressing what you need to work on, (not simply projecting onto others), find someone else who will truly challenge you to see the beam in your own eye….. rather than the splinter in others.
“It is Not by might, nor is by your own strength, but by My Spirit, says The LORD,” Zechariah 4:6.
