Let There be Light!
The first statement God made during creation was, ‘Let there be light’ (Genesis 1:3). He was speaking into a formless, void earth covered with darkness. From our Creator, in the very beginning, we learn that the answer to darkness is light. Light and darkness cannot coexist. Whereas light dispels darkness, darkness can never overwhelm light. Darkness is the absence of light, and not the defeat of light! The affairs of your life presently might be encompassed with darkness; not knowing what to do, unexplainable occurrences and a chain of unpleasant happenings, the answer is in the Light.
Jesus came as the Light of the world (John 1:9) to dispel the darkness of evil perpetrated by the devil. No wonder, when He appeared in a place, demons screamed out, the sick were healed and whatever had plagued God’s people for long was subdued. It is written; “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil” 1 John 3:8. Did He destroy them? Yes, of course He did; He fulfilled His purpose for coming as the Light destroying all works of darkness. He was a solution giver, a mountain mover and a miracle worker; all these are antidotes to darkness. This is the life that Jesus, exemplified for us who believe in Him. During His ministry, He said; “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” Matthew 5:14-16. As He was the Light, so are we now in this world. It is within our spiritual make-up to dispel darkness in our lives and in the lives of others.
Light manifests good works and eliminates evil works. This is elimination by illumination. As the light of the world, we should be alight with God’s word because it is also light. “Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path” Psalms 119:105. Darkness is also a symbolic of ignorance; those dark areas or grey areas of uncertainty are exploited by the evil one. However, when you know the truth of God’s word about something, you will release that light and any evil work of darkness will be exposed and eliminated. Sickness, disease, confusion, hatred and all evil works, only thrive in darkness; once you unleash the light of God’s word with purpose and boldness, they are dispelled. You don’t have to talk about the depth of the darkness, release the light. Learn to speak God’s word in your circumstances. Shouting at darkness cannot move it! Wishing it away cannot help either, switch on the light. When God saw confusion and darkness over the deep of the earth, He said; ‘Let there be light’ and it was. Speak to your situation the light of the glorious gospel. Command light to appear! Jesus said that you speak to the mountain (Mark 11:23). Learn to declare; ‘Let there be light (specific word that applies to your situation) in my marriage, finances, health, body and all that concerns you. As you speak light, this word will be fulfilled in your life; “The LORD will perfect that which concerns me” Psalms 138:8.
