Labels
We use so many labels for people in this world as we attempt to identify them by all kinds of categories.
A certain segment of society is labeled as having ADD, Bi-polar, aggressive tendencies, or on the other side of the spectrum, gifted-talented, or perhaps also being on the autism spectrum, and yet being gifted as well.
However, I believe that these labels restrict or even fence-in these individuals.
We care much more of what society may well throw at us. The same can also apply to such titles as: artists, programmer, custodian, or any number of other professional or skilled occupations.
Certainly, these names help us to identify what type of job or profession, that these people work in. But again, these are simply labels and they don’t encompass the entirety of that person.
We are much more than those names that identify us, as in a career or job. A librarian may well also have a talent for singing or as a stand-up comedian.
What is it that is the person?
We are a people who thinks only of the “doing” and forgets what lies underneath the surface and what society tells us.
There are so many different facets of a person. Just like a finely chiseled prism that reflects the sun’s light.
There are a myriad of different hues and shades of each segment.
Each finely chiseled shape holds an entire universe within.
Each has its own distinctive area and design.
Likewise, we are made-up of a multitude of different abilities, desires, and attributes.
No one single thing can ultimately frame us in its entirety.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” 2 Corinthians 5:17
“For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.” Psalm 139:13-16.
