“The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment,” Proverbs 12:19.

We seem to be living in an ever-expanding time of deceit, cover-up and dishonesty like never before.

One can wade through every day hearing about a new development that is happening in our government, and wonder what is true and what is not. And I’m certain that there are pockets of these types of developments that are happening in other parts of the globe daily.

We can know what ultimate and absolute truth is in terms of a belief system. We are given choices in this life of ours to know “the way, the truth, and the life.” And certainly knowing the One who is absolute truth, will guide and protect us in this life.

But discerning what is true and what is not from news reports, social media, or our dealings with our fellow man, is another story entirely.

“So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him, ‘Are you the King of the Jews?’ Jesus answered, ‘Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?’ Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?” Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.’ Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, ‘You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world”to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.’ Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” John 18:33-37.

Later on, we also have the account when Thomas asked Jesus:

“Thomas said to Him, ‘Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?’ Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me,” John 14:5-6.

We are going to need to see clearly through the hazy mirrors that are around us. This is going to become more and more important each and every day.

I believe that the mirrors that are now being reflected around us will become cloudier and cloudier. No amount of window cleaner or special solvent will do the trick now, as we are way beyond that now.

What we need more and more is an elevated gift of discerning of Spirits. I’m not talking about the discernment, as the gift is often phrased, no, I’m speaking of a deep, ability to see beyond the confines of the trappings of this world, and to be able to gaze into the underlying “truth” of what is hidden there.

To be sure, a level-headed mind that is filled full of wisdom and common sense will aid us greatly. But sometimes even these abilities don’t allow one to peel back the underlying motives and centers of deceit and corruption.

We have gone through and are continuing to experience, one of the greatest divisions in our country. This division has become so insidious that the flags of patriotism have replaced the flag of Christian brotherhood, truth, and compassion.

The zeal and profound vigor that some continue to propound, seems to be intensifying to such an extent, that the actual truth of facts, circumstances, and physical proof, doesn’t matter anymore.

The enemy loves to divide and conquer, and he certainly smiles every time that he can get us at odds with each other, over a myriad of different types of issues.

So, seek the truth beyond and through this muddy world we live in. Learn to discern truth from error, fact from fiction, and even half-truth from the full truth. Then perhaps a clearer image will emerge from the cloudy mirrors that are around us.
