Just The Tip of the Iceberg?
The small, perceptible part of a much larger situation or problem that remains hidden: ‘The statistics represent just the tip of the iceberg’.
There are many things in this life where we only see a portion of what may well represent the truth of a given thing or situation.
Oftentimes, most people only look at the surface of an issue, thinking that what is on the surface reflects everything about something.
I think that this type of mindset can be become very pervasive and will manifest itself in a myriad of different ways in a person’s life.
This type of mindset is seen in how some choose to label a particular branch of government, thinking that it is evil and the other part is good.
It’s so easy to follow certain protocols and jump on the bandwagon that many are carried away on.
Some follow certain talk shows and swallow, hook line and sinker, everything that is said.
We look at the iceberg and we think that we see the entire monolithic thing. We characterize a certain group of people and we label them as liberals and consider them to be against what we know to be the truth.
Surely those who are of the party of Reagan are of a superior belief and they represent what is wholesome for us? And yet, have we chosen to not look under the surface and see all of the hideous things that are oftentimes whisked away?
We are a people who only have eyes to see what is on the surface. We lack a true discernment of the motives and underlying heart conditions of people and groups.
We somehow think that certain segments are baby killers and the other group is pure. And yet I believe that some have fallen into the error that Christ said of the Pharisees.
“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness,” Matthew 23:27.
For truly, life is sacred and the taking of a human life is evil in the sight of God. Yet we separate children from parents at our borders and that child is in some ways, no different than the ones who had been ripped apart in the womb of their mothers at birth.
This type of hypocrisy doesn’t cause the Son of Man to look fondly upon the motives of those who adhere to this type of philosophy.
Both, as we perhaps should know, are wings of the same bird.
Neither one is superior to the other one, because they are creatures of man and they don’t represent the universal truth of God’s Kingdom.
Yet maybe the real fallacy is that the enemy of our souls is the one that is truly hidden beneath the waves of the iceberg. He sits there laughing as people of God grow in their dissension with one another.
Dear people of God, during this critical time in history, let us look deeply below the surface and peer into those caverns that seem to be hidden from the human eye, and then just maybe, we will see the iceberg for what it truly is.
Jesus was neither a Democrat nor a Republican, for He stood detached from the political institutions and governments of His day.
We should never allow our faith to become overshadowed by politicians, political systems, or the short-sighted motivations that they represent.
God calls us to come up upon higher ground.
