JFK Revisited
JFK = John F Kennedy
The LORD just dropped a phrase into my spirit this morning.
I’d been asking for some encouragement to pass on to the many who are struggling right now. As I listened to The Holy Spirit, I realised He had paraphrased a very well known expression coined originally by John F Kennedy, #35 in the United State of America, presidential line of succession.
By way of encouragement, The Holy Spirit is issuing a rallying cry to prophets and intercessors.
He is saying, “Ask not what your Church can do for you, but ask what you can do for your Church?”
The Church today is in disarray, with 2 Timothy 4:3-4 being more true than ever before.
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.” 2 Timothy 4:3-4
The great deception is in full swing and, it seems to me, only the Remnant Church has held fast to the sound doctrine of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the need for those who exhort and encourage the flock is greater than ever with thousands turning to Christ for ‘the answer’ to all of life’s problems in this extraordinary time.
So we need to ask ourselves:
- What can we do for our Church?
- Who can we help?
- What can we do to encourage folk?
- Who can we bless with provision?
- Who can we pray for?
- >Does anyone need help for anything at all?
- >Who can I bless today, and how can I bless them?
The opportunities are almost endless. And if someone blesses you —
- How can you then bless another?
The passage which springs to mind is this :-
“Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need.” Acts 4:32,34-35
So the question remains — “Ask not what your Church can do for you, but ask what you can do for your Church?”
The focus must not be on ourselves but on others.
The centre of attention no longer is ‘me’ but Jesus, because, as He said, “Whatever you do for the least of these, you do it for Me!” (Matthew 25:40)
Yes, we still have our own needs and concerns, but by focusing outside of ourselves, we take the spotlight from ‘here’ and place it ‘there’ — and we give ourselves room to move and grow in God’s Love.
