Jesus Tells Us: “Pray in My Name!”
By “in My Name,” means we are representing Him in His Messianic Love and Authority and God’s Power.
Closing a prayer or speaking forth a work of faith such as a miracle or healing in words rendered to God our Father in Jesus’ Name invokes God’s power working in our behalf.
During His three year ministry on this earth Messiah Jesus invoked God’s power by His example.
In agape, He spoke words of Spirit and Life (John 6:63) and did the work of Faith with Signs and Wonders following.
In reading the gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, we see He did each sign with just a few words of faith.
For instance, He called Lazarus to life.
“So they took away the stone. And Jesus raised His eyes [toward heaven] and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. I knew that You always hear Me and listen to Me; but I have said this because of the people standing around, so that they may believe that You have sent Me [and that You have made Me Your representative].” When He had said this, He shouted with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” Out came the man who had been dead, his hands and feet tightly wrapped in burial cloths (linen strips), and with a [burial] cloth wrapped around his face. Jesus said to them, “Unwrap him and release him.”” John 11:41-44.
In His parable of the vine and branches, Messiah Jesus taught His disciples and us to walk in His way and do what He did as His representatives.
He concluded it saying:
“You didn’t choose me, but I chose you and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you will ask of The Father in My Name, He may give it to you. I command these things to you, that you may love one another.” John 15:16-17.
“I AM the true vine, and My Father is the farmer. Every branch in me that doesn’t bear fruit, he takes away. Every branch that bears fruit, he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already pruned clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I in you. As the branch can’t bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me. I AM the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If a man doesn’t remain in me, he is thrown out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them, throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it will be done for you.
In this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; and so you will be my disciples. Even as the Father has loved me, I also have loved you. Remain in My Love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, even as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His Love. I have spoken these things to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be made full.
This is My Commandment, that you love one another, even as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant doesn’t know what his lord does. But I have called you friends, for everything that I heard from My Father, I have made known to you. You didn’t choose me, but I chose you and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you will ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
I command these things to you, that you may love one another.” John 15:1-17.
“After Messiah Jesus went to The Cross and shed His Blood for the remission of our sins, He died. On the third day, God His Father raised Him from the dead. Then He appeared to many witnesses.
Later, as they were eating, Jesus appeared to the Eleven and rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen.
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My Mame they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will be made well.”” Mark 16:14-18.
