Ahab’s Treaty with Ben-Hadad

“Then his servants said to him, “Look now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings. Please, let us put sackcloth around our waists and ropes around our heads, and go out to the king of Israel; perhaps he will spare your life.” So they wore sackcloth around their waists and put ropes around their heads, and came to the king of Israel and said, “Your servant Ben-Hadad says, ‘Please let me live.’ “And he said, “Is he still alive? He is my brother.” Now the men were watching closely to see whether any sign of mercy would come from him; and they quickly grasped at this word and said, “Your brother Ben-Hadad.” So he said, “Go, bring him.” Then Ben-Hadad came out to him; and he had him come up into the chariot. So Ben-Hadad said to him, “The cities which my father took from your father I will restore; and you may set up marketplaces for yourself in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria.” Then Ahab said, “I will send you away with this treaty.”
So he made a treaty with him and sent him away. … Then he [the prophet] said to him, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Because you have let slip out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.’ “So the king of Israel went to his house sullen and displeased, and came to Samaria” 1 Kings 20:31-34, 42-43.

By freeing foolishly Yasser Arafat when the IDF had him in their hands cornered in Beirut, Prime Minister Begin allowing him and his terrorist with their guns to escape, eventually to Tunisia, Israel created the very problem they have had to deal with ever since, a by the God of Israel totally unwanted false treaty with the so-called Palestinian leadership from the disastrous Oslo accords to this very day, all because they failed to deal with Arafat as they should have.

You do not make a treaty with Nazi-like enemies committed to your destruction as even the unchanged Hamas covenant still points out, a goal accepted according to a recent poll in Judea and Samaria by the overall majority of the Palestinians living there!

It has always been Israel’s utter weakness – prodded by her foolish left-leaning elite – that in the end they have to make some kind of treaty with an enemy who still uses all of Israel’s peace offers to the benefit of their unchanged ultimate goal, the replacement of Israel by a Muslim terrorist supported state. If only Israel will be willing to be foolish enough to make such deal for “peace” it will be the end of Israel as Arafat once said: “Peace for us will be the destruction of Israel.”

The biblical warning of the prophet here recorded in the book of Kings seems never to have been more relevant, seeing what recent withdrawals in relation to South Lebanon and Gaza have done, putting in the saddle Hamas and Hizbollah as terrorist ruling entities there. With the upsurge of ISLAMIC radicalism all around, the giving away of most of Judea and Samaria in a – by God warned against – false treaty for peace, we can well see the truth of the prophet’s words: “it will cost you your life and your nation.”

May at this very late stage Israel’s leaders muster the wisdom and the courage to listen to the very advice of Him who watches over them, I pray!
