Interpreting Dreams
Interpreting Dreams — The Principle of Double Reference
“And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold,he stood by the river.
And, behold, there came up out of the river seven well favoured kine and fatfleshed;and they fed in a meadow.
And, behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river.
And the ill favoured and leanfleshed kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke.
And he slept and dreamed the second time:and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good.
And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them.
And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream. ……
…….. And the dream was repeated to Pharaoh twice because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass,” Genesis.41:1-7,32.
We find here something very important to note when dealing with dreams and visions of the night, I call it The Principle of Double Reference.
In the above passages of scripture, we find Pharaoh had two dreams in the same night in quick succession.
In the First Dream, he saw thin cows swallowing up fat cows. Pharaoh woke up confused, not knowing what his dream meant.
As soon as he lays his head down to sleep again he dreams a Second Dream. Seven thin ears of corn eating up seven fat ears of corn. He wakes up the second time with a troubled spirit not knowing what his dreams meant.
After much confusion and drama in Pharaoh’s palace, Joseph was called to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams.
In the process of interpreting Pharaoh’s dreams, Joseph reveals some very vital principles to note in understanding and interpreting Dreams and Visions.
Principle No. 1.
God’s dreams, visions and revelations comes with PEACE!
God never sends a dream, vision or prophecy to frighten or put us in fear.
First thing Joseph declared to Pharaoh was:
“…God shall give Pharaoh AN ANSWER OF PEACE,” Genesis.41:16.
So, if you get a Dream/ Vision or Prophecy that puts you in fear, forget that Dream/ Vision or Prophecy. God didn’t send it.
Principle No. 2.
If God sends you a Vision or a Dream, then know that the interpretation of the Vision/ Dream is in God.
Seek God for the interpretation, or seek the help of those with a proven prophetic gift to minister to you.
If you had a dream and you’re running all over the country just to get the interpretation of your dream, chances are God didn’t send you that dream.
Just ignore the dream because not all dreams come from God.
Joseph declared, “… God shall give Pharaoh an answer…,” Genesis.41:16.
Emphasis on GOD as the one to give the answer or meaning to the dream.
Principle No. 3.
Every word of The LORD that comes to us in a vision or dream must be IN LINE WITH GOD’S WRITTEN WORD.
Any Dream/ Vision or Prophetic Word that is not in line with the WRITTEN Word is obviously not from The LORD!
Every prophetic word from The LORD has to be in line with The Word.
Principle No. 4.
The Principle of Double Reference.
“And that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass,” Genesis.41:32.
Many of us have had the same Dream/ Vision doubled to us in a single night. There is a reason.
God uses the principle of Double Reference to show us the seriousness and the urgency of a matter.
The principle of Double Reference basically tells us that whatever God is showing us is urgent and is to be taken with all seriousness.
So, if God gives you a Double Vision at a time, it speaks of the urgency and seriousness of the matter at hand, seek God to decode, what thus saith The LORD!
