Ignorance, Grace and Mercy
God is a righteous God and He won’t hold you accountable to what you don’t know.
To know something you have had to be aware of it and receive and accept it. Thanks to God for grace and mercy.
Paul had carried a heavy list of validation from the Chief Leaders in Jerusalem. He was out to destroy Christians whom he persecuted and killed because he was defending the Law. WE know HE was absolutely wrong!
When Paul or Saul had an encounter with the grace and mercy of God, he was changed. By his actions, he was guilty and deserved death. However, God shown mercy and grace to Paul. HE was ignorant of the Way, the Truth and the Life!
Paul had an encounter with the Lord on the way to Damascus, and He was confronted and corrected by Jesus himself. He was blinded for three days and had to be led. His whole life changed in a moment.
There was a man sent to him to touch his eyes after three days and restore them. His vision returned as God was making a point. Paul was so transformed he went totally opposite to what he previously believed. God forgave him before he ever changed. What grace and mercy!
“But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake. And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus. And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests?” Acts 9:15-21 KJV
Paul’s transition and transformation was amazing and changed his direction totally. When his vision came back, He became a preacher and teacher of righteousness concerning the Way the Truth and the Life.
Paul has his witness of God’s mercy and grace as a testimony of Jesus. Paul suffered for Christ and at the time had NO idea he would write over 2/3s of the New Testament. God shown Paul HIS Grace and Mercy!
Through Paul’s ignorance of the Way, God pardoned Paul.
We are accountable for what we know, not what we don’t know. Children are pardoned of many things because they “ARE” children.
It is no different with spiritual children who don’t know any better. Aren’t you glad the Lord forgives us in the midst of ignorance? Thank God for HIS mercy and grace!
