If I can Touch His Garment…
The story of the woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:25-34) is a story that has more content than we possibly have imagined. I cannot but help pause and look at the verse that spelt out her determination: “For she said to herself IF I CAN TOUCH HIS GARMENT I SHALL BE WHOLE”.
Why wouldn’t she just walk up to Jesus and ask Him to lay His hands on her like every other sick persons would do? The answer is simple: Her case was the case of “AN ISSUE OF BLOOD.” It was a case like none other.
The Bible spelt it out clearly, “ISSUE OF BLOOD.” This statement was directly lifted from the book of Leviticus,
“And if a woman have an ISSUE, and her ISSUE in her flesh be of BLOOD, she shall be put apart seven days: and whoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the evening” Leviticus 15:19.
So you see, her case was directly lifted from the laws of purification as written by Moses.
Everyone knew her to have been wealthy, for the Bible said she had spent everything she had and suffered many things from the hands of many physicians… Yet her ISSUE could not be solved.
I pause here and announce to someone who has an ISSUE with BLOOD. Every kind of affliction connected to your blood has just been cleansed! High blood pressure has just been stabilized!
By the Levitical laws of purification, this woman is NOT SUPPOSED to associate with anyone and in an event where such is the case, she brings her uncleanness to any she comes in contact with.
Everyone knew her to have a ceaseless MENSTRUAL FLOW. She became anemic, because she had lost too much blood and she knew she was on the fast lane to DEATH. Her case was urgent and needed emergency treatment. Knowing she couldn’t go near Jesus to be healed, she RESOLVED in her heart to at least touch His clothes so her impurities will not be on the Person of Jesus.
But what chance did she have to be healed? None, I believe, because the THRONG around Jesus was great. However, SHE DECIDED TO TAKE HER CHANCE. Her intention was just to TOUCH HIS GARMENT, but she got what she did not bargain for! She was knocked down, pushed down, crushed. Yet she had made her decision: I HAVE TO TOUCH!
She managed to crawl towards where Jesus was, and being humbled and humiliated by the crowd, she reached out to touch THE HEM of His garment.
In Psalm 133, the Bible speaks of the oil upon the head of Aaron which runs towards the skirts and the base of the garment is where all the anointing was trapped the most, because it is hemmed.
This woman reached out to touch the Base of the garments of Jesus where all the ANOINTING was trapped and instantly HER ISSUE OF BLOOD was cleansed.
Sometime life seems so unfair. It can reduce any celebrity to a nonentity. It has no respect for people. But let me you, JUST WHEN YOU HAVE COME TO THE POINT WHERE YOU ARE KNOCKED DOWN CRUSHED, stretch you hands to reach THE HEM OF HIS GARMENT.
The woman intended to touch the garment not the HEM, but when she could no longer stand, she reached to the PART OF THE GARMENT WHERE SHE COULD EASILY REACH….
Your MIRACLE is guaranteed… Yes if you can touch the HEM…!
Mark 5:25-34
King James Version:
“25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years….”
New King James Version:
25 Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, 26 and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. 28 For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”
29 Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. 30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?”
31 But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’”
32 And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. 33 But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. 34 And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”
Psalm 133
A Song of Ascents. Of David.
“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity!
2 It is like the precious oil upon the head, Running down on the beard, The beard of Aaron, Running down on the edge of his garments.
3 It is like the dew of Hermon, Descending upon the mountains of Zion; For there the Lord commanded the blessing – Life forevermore.”
