How to Pray For Politicians and Debates
How should Christians pray regarding political debates? Since we know there are Christians who are members in different political parties, this can generate debates among them as well. Strong emotions surface in times of elections. These emotions stem from feelings of passion about the various issues and candidates which certainly need to be discussed and understood. Yet, as Christians, how do we pray?
How to Pray for Politicians and Debates:
Pray for truth to be seen and deception and lies to be exposed in all places, both during the election season and during debates. Ask for God to reveal the secret and hidden things.
Daniel 2:21:22 “And he changeth the times and the seasons; he removeth kings, and setteth up kings; he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that have understanding; he revealeth the deep and secret things; he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.”
People, political parties, and nations are affected by spiritual entities. It is not just mere human beings and their actions that affect others. It is a spiritual battle that must be won by God in the Spirit. We should stand against the spirit of deception; it is a prevailing entity in the world and affects all spheres of life, including politics.
Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
Zechariah 4:6…. “Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit saith the Lord of hosts.”
Take authority over wickedness and loose righteousness. Bind deception and lies; loose truth in Jesus name.
Matthew 16:19 “I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
Luke 10:19 “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy.”
Pray for wisdom and victory to be released to those following after God and His kingdom. Pray that evil plots will be revealed causing evil plans to be destroyed. God knows where righteousness or wickedness lies-on both sides. He can bless those who agree with His Word and deal with those who are adversarial to Him and His desires.
Psalm 98:1 “O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvelous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.”
Psalm 109:29 “Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle.”
This is a spiritual battle. Do not pray curses on individuals. That is witchcraft. (i.e., “God, make them fail; God, make them sick; God, confuse them.”) Witchcraft is not to be a part of a Christian’s prayers. Do not speak curses on individuals. (i.e.,) Do not mock and rejoice when they fail. You should reject all thoughts like “I wish someone would harm them; I’d like to see evil come upon them.” You will have your opportunity to make your statement at the polls. Be sure to do that.
Proverbs 24:17,18 “Rejoice not when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles: Lest the Lord see it, and it displease Him and He turn away His wrath from Him. (Vengeance belongs to God.)“
1 Samuel 15:23 “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.”
Romans 12:14 “Bless them that persecute you; bless, and curse not.”
Pray in tongues if you have that gift. Pray for your nation and pray during the actual debates. The Holy Spirit knows exactly how to pray for the situation and as we yield to Him we will pray correctly.
Romans 8:26 “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”
Stay focused on praying during the debate instead of emotionally rejoicing over any one winning or losing. You are a servant of God and a conduit of His will.
Luke 21:36 “Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”
Pray for all candidates to come into the truth of salvation through Christ. Repent of any hatred and judgment in your own heart so that you can pray with a clean conscience.
2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some count slackness; but is longsuffering to you-ward, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
Give thanks to God. Thank Him ahead of time that He hears your prayers. Thank Him for pouring out His love and mercy on your nation and your people. Pray that the will of God will be done in the elections and ultimately in the nation.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
Prayer for Politicians and Debates
“Dear Lord, thank you that we have the privilege of voting. We choose to pray because it is not by our might, but by Your Spirit that we will have order and leaders of integrity. We ask for leaders who truly love our nation. We pray for truth to prevail and lies to be exposed. We ask that you reveal the secret and hidden things, both the good and the bad.
We bind the powers, principalities and wicked spirits that would come against our nation and our elections in Jesus name. We pray for wisdom and victory to be released to those following after godly principles and we speak confusion and failure to the evil plots of the devil.
We bind ungodly competition and strife among the people in our nation. We pray that we would walk in love and humility. We bind foolishness and deception– that we would see the truths in issues and vote accordingly. We choose not to curse or mock individuals or parties with the words of our mouth.
We pray for unity, that parties would be able to work together for the good of our nation. And most of all, we pray for the revelation of salvation through Jesus Christ for all. Amen.”
