Does this sound familiar?

Every time it looks like you are moving forward a little in life, something happens to set you back again. Or you feel like you continuously trip up because of the same negative cycles or patterns of behavior.

Or maybe you’re having trouble hearing God. The spiritual atmosphere seems foggy and unclear, and you don’t know if what you’re hearing is from God, yourself or the enemy.

It might be a SPIN Cycle

I have identified a SPIN Cycle that people get into that can block your ability to hear God and discern what He is saying. SPIN is an acronym for:

• Stuck in the past
• Procrastinating
• Internal negative thinking
• No clear vision

Let’s take a look at each section of the SPIN cycle and what you can do to overcome it!

1. Stuck in the past

God wants to reveal the purposes and plans He has had for you since before you were born.

“Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be,” Psalm 139:16 NIV.

But many of us have gotten caught up in the mistakes of our past, and it is keeping us from being able to hear and discern God’s voice.

When you ask the Lord to forgive you for the past, He blots those records out. This means your past mistakes do not determine the outcome of your future. When you ask God for forgiveness, your sins are gone—done, over, wiped out!

It’s time to let go of the baggage of the past so you can fully embrace what’s coming! Ask God’s forgiveness and release the pain of the past so you can resist the temptation to pull back from advancing into your future.

2. Procrastinating

Are there things you know you need to do, but you have been putting them off? Procrastination keeps us in a negative spin instead of breaking through to something new in our lives.

I ask myself, “What is the one thing I could do today that would make the biggest impact?”

Then do one small step towards it. You do not have to do the entire task all at once. When you develop a lifestyle of doing small, positive things regularly, they actually add up and allow you to get further ahead in a short time.

3. Internal negative thinking

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things,” Philippians 4:8 NIV.

We understand that we should keep our thoughts on what is good, but sometimes our mindset needs a little help getting there.

There are a lot of reasons for us to be hopeful right now! Do not look at your circumstances or listen to the negative clamor on the news and the internet. God’s ways are always higher!

4. No clear vision

If you don’t know where you’re headed, how can you take steps forward? Getting a clear vision is essential to getting out of a negative SPIN cycle. And that starts with being able to understand what God is trying to tell you about your future.
