Holiness and Being Holy in Christ Jesus
Something is “Holy” when it is dedicated to the use of a deity. What is holy can be a person or object.
If it is an object, then stewardship of it must be correctly carried out for it to remain holy.
If it is a person, then the person’s focus must be on the requirements of the deity they are holy unto.
So what does it mean for a Christian to be holy?
Whatever they are stewards of, (everything over which they have spiritual or legal authority), must be cared for correctly and used in the way Jesus requires it to be used, and whatever Jesus requires of them, must be done, otherwise they are not holy to Jesus and may not belong to Him.
This is why we are told that without holiness no one can be saved, (see God).
“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the LORD,” Hebrews 12:14 (KJV).
The attitude of holiness keeps you from doing what Satan suggests you do ,(which usually is a sin if you accept what he suggests). Sin is deliberately not doing what God requires you to do to remain holy.
We are told that if we examine what we do, and say so, that we only do or say what maintains holiness, we will escape the judgment of God!
So how do you live a holy life?
- You need to know what God requires of you to maintain your holiness, then to do it.
- You need to know how the enemy tries to distract or divert you from living a holy life.
- You need to know how to hear The Holy Spirit guiding you how to live a holy life.
- You need to know the attitudes you need to have to live a holy life.
Are you doing these things or at least wholeheartedly trying to do these things?
If not, you are probably not living a holy life and probably will not go to heaven.
Not doing these things because of indifference, has the same effect as rebellion, as you are ignoring God and are not doing what God requires of you.
Note that you will only pursue holiness if you love God.
Rewards an avoiding hell will not be the reason you maintain holiness, otherwise it is not love, but reward that motivates you.
Jesus reminds you,
“Remember that without holiness you will not go to heaven.
You will not go to hell for wholeheartedly trying and failing.
You will go to hell for not trying.”
