Hear And Move At A Sound From Heaven
A good soldier listens to, and obeys the orders of his commanding officer, and the pilot of a flight at a proper airport only takes off or lands with the permission of the air traffic control tower.
So also is the undertaking of our fight and flight in CHRIST JESUS.
In our warfare and journey as good soldiers of JESUS CHRIST (2 Timothy 2:3), we must listen to what is coming from THE LORD OF HOSTS in our Control Tower, Heaven.
We must be diligent to hear and do what Heaven is saying. This was how our LORD JESUS CHRIST Himself succeeded so perfectly in the days of His Flesh.
He heeded what He heard from Heaven. Without doubt. Without question. And without delay.
As He said:
“I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge [i.e. decide]; and My Judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own Will but The Will of THE FATHER Who sent Me.” John 5:30.
The discipline of hearing and acting according to A Sound from Heaven is indispensably precious and life-critical in our warfare and journey in JESUS. When we do what He tells us, we win.
That extraordinarily very accomplished warrior, David, knew this all too well. And did so all so well.
He took orders from THE LORD on a case by case basis, most often taking the initiative to inquire of THE LORD. And he succeeded in defeating his enemies round about.
“Now when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. And David heard of it and went down to the stronghold. The Philistines also went and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim. So David inquired of THE LORD , saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” And THE LORD said to David, “Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand.” So David went to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there; and he said, “THE LORD has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water.” Therefore he called the name of that place Baal Perazim. And they left their images there, and David and his men carried them away. Then the Philistines went up once again and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim. Therefore David inquired of THE LORD, and He said, “You shall not go up; circle around behind them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees. And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then THE LORD will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” And David did so, as THE LORD commanded him; and he drove back the Philistines from Geba as far as Gezer.” 2 Samuel 5:17-25.
As I shared previously, always inquire of THE LORD in all your ways to direct you.
“Trust in THE LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear THE LORD and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.” Proverbs 3:5-8.
“THE LORD directs the steps of The GODly. He delights in every detail of their lives.” Psalm 37:23 NLT.
So, David inquired of THE LORD, got His Permission and had a resounding VICTORY over the Philistines.
But then they came again!
(Satan’s pursuit day and night is to come again and again to steal, and to kill and to destroy. And we must inquire of THE LORD every time to successfully dislodge and destroy the enemy).
And what did David do in response? He inquired of THE LORD this time too. He didn’t use the template of the previous time.
No matter our Spiritual experience, we must assume and presume nothing. We must ask THE LORD for His Wisdom every time, including dream interpretation.
(Dream interpretations belong to GOD, not dream books and internet dream interpretations. The Voice of GOD through dreams cannot be assumed and presumed in predetermined interpretation references.
Interpretations belong to GOD — Genesis 40:8 — get them from Him alone. When you have a dream, inquire of THE LORD regarding it, not presumed meanings from dream books and internet interpretations).
And so, when David inquired of THE LORD on this occasion also, He gave Him a completely new strategy for the new battle. It was SOOO different from the previous one.
“Then the Philistines went up once again and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim. Therefore David inquired of THE LORD , and He said, “You shall not go up; circle around behind them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees. And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then THE LORD will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” And David did so, as THE LORD commanded him; and he drove back the Philistines from Geba as far as Gezer. ” (vv. 22-25).
In our warfare, battle formation, movement as well as attack position and timing must be led by THE LORD Himself, (vv. 23-24).
From our position in THE WORD OF GOD, prayer, praise and worship, quietness, we will hear The Sound of His Direction, His Command. The more we get into THE WORD, seek Him in prayer, praise and worship Him, be quiet in His Presence, the more we will hear Him, the more The Sound of His Direction/Command will come to us.
A Sound from Heaven gives GREAT advancement
Keeping The Command of THE LORD to tarry in Jerusalem, about one hundred and twenty disciples were praying for about ten days. But then A Sound from Heaven dramatically changed their lives. And is still changing lives till this day, and forever.
“When The Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came A Sound from Heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with THE HOLY SPIRIT and began to speak with other tongues, as THE SPIRIT gave them Utterance.” Acts 2:1-4.
Always pray and ask THE LORD to expressly hear and do what THE SPIRIT expressly says (1 Timothy 4:1).
As He repeatedly says in Revelation chapters two and three, “He who has an ear, let him hear what THE SPIRIT says to The Churches.”
You have to listen to hear. We must always be tuned in to THE SPIRIT no matter where we are, or what we are doing.
“And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then THE LORD will go out before you ” (vv. 24).
When you hear a sound from Heaven (THE LORD’s Direction/Command, then you shall ADVANCE QUICKLY. For then THE LORD will go out before you to give you VICTORY.
Good success, joyous VICTORY is certain if you hear THE LORD, and advance quickly to do what, where, when and how He has commanded. This was how David always succeeded: diligently doing what THE LORD says where, when and how.
And this is how we will also succeed in our warfare.
“For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of The Scriptures might have hope.” Romans 15:4.
Last October, I needed a VERY important government documentation urgently.
As the acquisition process required, I had to make an appointment online. This was a Friday evening.
Being a busy time, the booking system gave me a date weeks into November. But THE HOLY SPIRIT said to me (internally, not audibly) to go to the organisation on the following Monday. (Remember I was making the required appointment online on a Friday).
I obeyed. The organisation is a VERY important government institution with soldiers and police manning the entrance and the premises, and wary intelligence services operatives secretly watching one’s every movement.
No appointment slip, no entry.
To cut a long story short, I was denied entry.
Well…, I heard THE HOLY SPIRIT, did I not?
Instead of giving up and making the long journey back home disappointed, I went away from the place, stood somewhere and PRAYED in tongues for quite a while.
At some point, I sensed by THE SPIRIT to go again.
When I did, a new shift of military and police personnel had taken over guarding duties.
Miraculously, THE LORD gave me favour and I entered.
Not only that. While inside, a national security operative asked me if I wanted to see the director of the centre.
“Yes!” I said exuberantly, being the very thing I had been wanting.
He directed me to his office upstairs.
When his executive assistant ushered me into his office, the director treated me as a VIP!
My trip was successful exceedingly, abundantly above all that I could ask or think, (Ephesians 3:20).
When I heard THE HOLY SPIRIT and acted as led, I got what I needed – with VIP treatment. But I had to endure and overcome initial rejection. (Perseverance and persistence are key to success in The Faith).
I said before, and say here again that sometimes, The Voice of THE LORD is loudest in silence. Making time to be quiet before THE LORD can amplify His Voice to you.
A lot of the time, we must make time to have all things silent, and quieten ourselves before THE LORD and be intimate with Him, giving Him all attention, meditating on Him. Even in a busy work environment and situation.
Your heart is at the heart of the matter.
THE LORD cherishes such moments when we avail time and attention to meet Him in the garden of our hearts, just loving Him, doting on Him, meditating on Him.
And then He begins to pour out The Secrets of His Heart to our hearts for our advancement.
Oh, that you will switch the TV or that mobile device off and be still before THE LORD to hear Him!
Ensuring silence is a sure way to hear GOD. Abraham’s servant knew and used this Spiritual Wisdom to great effect when he found Rebekah for Isaac. (Please see Genesis 24:12-21.)
“And David did so, as THE LORD commanded him; and he drove back the Philistines from Geba as far as Gezer.” (v.25).
To succeed in our warfare, we must only do what THE LORD of hosts commands, when, where and how!
By The Grace of GOD, I do not lift a finger or move a toe to do anything, or go anywhere without inquiring of THE LORD to know and do ONLY His Will. (Although I haven’t done all things perfectly, I always only pursue to do The Will of THE LORD in all things).
“Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what The Will of THE LORD is….” Ephesians 5:17.
Making a move (doing anything) without the express permission and instruction of THE LORD amounts to pride.
And “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” (Proverbs 16:18).
It is MOST dangerous, especially in these evil days, to make a move without THE LORD’s say-so.
Let us always ensure to hear the sound of marching (THE LORD’s Direction/ Command) and then advance quickly. VICTORY and good success are thus assured.
Press in at A Sound from Heaven
When you hear A Sound from Heaven, it is a very important signal to press in with prayer.
After defeating the prophets of baal on Mount Carmel, Elijah the prophet prayed for rain to fall on the land immediately, after three and half years of drought in the agricultural society.
But he first heard A Sound from Heaven: the sound of abundance of rain.
And then he pressed into FERVENT prayer, inspired by The Holy Sound he had heard.
When we hear THE SPIRIT, we must pray with His Utterance (with tongues, and with the understanding). Yes, we must decree and declare what THE SPIRIT is sounding to us.
‘Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.” So Ahab went up to eat and drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; then he bowed down on the ground, and put his face between his knees, and said to his servant, “Go up now, look toward the sea.” So he went up and looked, and said, “There is nothing.” And seven times he said, “Go again.” Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said, “There is a cloud, as small as a man’s hand, rising out of the sea!” So he said, “Go up, say to Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot, and go down before the rain stops you.’ ” Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain. So Ahab rode away and went to Jezreel. Then The Hand of THE LORD came upon Elijah; and he girded up his loins and ran ahead of Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.’ 1 Kings 18:41-46.
Like Elijah, we must resolutely stand on THE LORD’s Report of even a small good news — “a cloud, as SMALL as a man’s hand“, and then will come “a heavy rain” of His Deliverance and Victory. (vv. 44 – 45).
When you diligently steward A Sound from Heaven — the sound of abundance of rain, you will soon have “a heavy rain” of good news from Heaven.
Hallelu-YAH! Praise GOD!
“The LORD Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.” 2 Timothy 4:22.
“Farewell” Acts 15:29.
~ Jacob Addison Awagah
Jacob, an apostle of JESUS CHRIST by The Will of GOD, according to The Promise of Life Which is in CHRIST JESUS, (2 Timothy 1:1).
Like John, I like to put my head to The Heart of JESUS so as to know and do His Will always. What’s in His Heart is what matters now and FOREVER. His Heart’s Desire is my only desire. My will is to do His Will.
As John was, I am the disciple whom JESUS loves. And like Paul, I am “the prisoner of CHRIST JESUS” (Ephesians 3:1) for His Purpose forever: to obey Him always.
NB. Surely, the disciple whom JESUS loves and “the prisoner of CHRIST JESUS”, like ALL The Promises of GOD, are available to every believer to obtain, just as John and Paul did.
“And having been perfected, He [JESUS] became The Author of Eternal Salvation to all who obey Him,” Hebrews 5:9.
Thank you so much for letting God use you for a time such as this.
This was breath taking but it revealed so much. I know we can’t give up. God is constantly blessing us.
“No matter our Spiritual experience, we must assume and presume nothing. We must ask THE LORD for His Wisdom every time,” Oh Jacob, my friend, you are reading my mail this day! I will copy this post and keep it before me. It is so true to seek His voice, in silence, in stillness, pray in tongues and don’t give up and don’t give in! Thanks so much for your diligent stewardship. You are a blessing to all who are blessed to know you. Shalom, Sandi
Jacob, this article was such an encouragement to me. Such solid wisdom and understanding throughout. God bless you.
