He Called it, “Prayer Poetry”
On and off through my life I have written poetry. A particularly powerful time for me was in 2009 – 2011 after Jesus had, for lack of a better term, rocked my world.
Then came silence.
I have written a few poems over the past several years but for the most part it just wasn’t there for me anymore… that was until recently.
I’ve shared a few poems the LORD has laid on my heart over the past few months and now it is flowing again as it once did.
This morning I heard Him define what was taking place…
He called it, “Prayer Poetry.”
To that end, I hope the poem below blesses your heart.
Trouble is on all sides.
There is nowhere left to flee.
In times like this there is one meaningful posture;
that which is found on bended knee.
I call upon You in the early morning
before the rising of the sun.
Knowing that if You are in the battle
the victory has already been won.
You are my mighty commander;
my defender in times of trial.
You foil the plans of the enemy.
With truth You nullify his guile.
Who shall stand against You
and prosper in their plans?
In this cosmic chess match
the devil is playing right into Your hands.
So it is in You that I hope.
It is in You that I hide.
For when I face the snarling enemy
I turn to see You by my side.
Yet even as the earth turns
I remain fixed in this very place.
Amongst the wind and the waves
I search diligently for Your face.
“Come and be my rescue now” I pray
in this great time of need.
With weeping and sobs I cry out.
With urgency I plead.
God, You are my God.
In You I place my hope and trust.
You are great and mighty.
You are merciful and just.
I wait patiently for You.
For what other choice remains?
You make the crooked path straight.
You humble the mountains into plains.
