Growing in Love
I remember when I first committed my life to the LORD, a deep hunger for the Word ignited within me and I would spend hours in the Word each day.
As my knowledge increased I realized something else was also at work, I was becoming legalistic and everything that did not line up with my understanding of scripture I would condemn, criticize and point the finger.
I would hurt many people and even tell people they are going to hell. What a hypocrite I was, as I had weaknesses in my own life which I knew existed, yet I unsympathetically pointed the finger at others.
Thankfully, the LORD showed me my error and quickened the following scripture to me:
“….We all possess knowledge. But knowledge puffs up while love builds up,” 1 Corinthians 8:1 (NIV).
From this scripture, God showed me that my increase in knowledge was causing me to elevate myself above others. Essentially, I was becoming proud by what I knew and I lacked the fruit of Love.
At the time I had a close relationship with the Bible, but I did not possess an intimate relationship with the living word – Jesus Christ.
My prayer time never involved a heart to heart with the LORD, it was more bless me, protect me… Amen!
God began to develop my relationship with Him and I found myself opening up to Him more. I was beginning to trust Him with my heart. This ability to trust Him paved the way to a more intimate relationship with Him… it is something that keeps on growing.
As I began to form a true relationship with TRUTH I found the fruit of LOVE began to develop in me.
I suddenly found that I was been transformed in this place of intimacy.
I still study the Word as He leads but knowing Him and spending time with Him in prayer, praise and worship is the first priority… this is the place of two becoming one.
There is a powerful scripture the LORD has quickened to me which really speaks of what really matters.
“….to know the love of Christ that SURPASSES KNOWLEDGE, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God,” Ephesians 3:19 (BSB).
Coming to know the Love of Christ is beyond anything we can read, or hear or study – it is an experience that never ends because His love has no limits.
It is in knowing His Love that we are filled with all the fullness of God… it is impossible to mature in Him without knowing His Love.
