Greater Works
Today’s Text:
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” John 14:12
This is an amazing statement made by Jesus himself to his disciples.
How could Jesus say such a thing, when he himself did all things in great success and power?
Did he actually mean that his Disciples could do the same works he did and even greater works then he did?
The reason why Jesus said it, was based upon the same Holy Spirit whom He worked His miracles with, would also be in His Disciples.
In other words: since Jesus did all his great works by the power of The Holy Spirit, He knew that they would have the same Holy Spirit, and they too could work the works — and even greater works — by the same Holy Spirit power that He Himself worked in.
Consider this Verse:
“Then answered Jesus and said unto them, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, THE SON CAN DO NOTHING OF HIMSELF, but WHAT HE SEETH THE FATHER DO; FOR WHAT THINGS SOEVER HE DOETH, THESE ALSO DOETH THE SON LIKEWISE.
For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom He will.”” John 5:19-21
Jesus was simply saying: “I cannot do anything but what The Father shows me to do, and if I do those things it is not Me who does them — but My Father.”
In a recent conversation I had with The LORD, He told me this. He said: “If you see Me do it while I was on earth, and in my natural body, then those things you see me do, you can do yourself, because you have the same Holy Spirit working in you, to believe and trust in for the power to work.”
He explained it was all about when He Himself was “In his earthly body and a man”, when He did the works, so believers “In their natural bodies” can also work by the same Holy Spirit in them.
If a Disciple of Jesus will simply allow The Holy Spirit to work through him, then it will be The Spirit working — not the man.
But, we know there must be a willingness to let The Spirit work. Many men refuse to allow The Holy Spirit to work, thinking they can do the work themselves!
One great man of God said this: “When I am up preaching and The Holy Spirit moves ….. I then just step back and let The Holy Spirit work.”
This then was his greatness, that he was able to step back and let The Spirit work.
A preacher must learn to depend upon The Holy Spirit to give him the message to speak. The good preacher will preach The Holy Spirit’s message, and step back to watch the results. He soon realizes it is not him, but The Spirit Who works.
Many today have no greater works, because they themselves are too great!
To say this will explain the last statement: “I must decrease and he must increase.”
Also the Apostle Paul said it this way:
“And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:1-5
The Apostle was not the great one, but the one in him was The Great One.
The Apostle let The One “In him” demonstrate His great power!
The One in him moved to great works and even greater works, for it was not Paul working, but The Spirit of God.
I believe Jesus then taught that all who are believers can do the same works Jesus did, if they will let the one inside them do the work, then they will see the spirit demonstrate great works.
Press into allowing The Holy Spirit then to do greater works in you, by stepping back and letting Him work.

Dear brother Dewey I will not lay hands,do deliveramce, teach or preach unless I hear what to say or see the Lord doing it! I am told where to lay my hand, where the demon is located within the body…pray in the Spirit mostly.
The SONS of God are led by the SPIRIT OF GOD.
I am so tired brother of people walking in religion, causing such wounding of the Sons because of their religious teaching!! As the Lord pours out His “latter rain” we will have great persecution, not from the world at first (although that will certainly come later) but from the Pharasees and Saducees in the churches saying “this is not of God
“
A timely word, thank you for your obedience.
