The Revealed Will of God
We pray in “The Lord’s Prayer” of Matthew 6:10 the famous words “Your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.” What precisely is God’s will and where to go to look for it? The answer, of course, lies in the very Word of God, the Holy Bible, which He has provided for us, for precisely this purpose. Indeed Second Timothy 3:16 tell us specifically that “All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfected, thoroughly furnished to every good work.” But this does not mean that all of God’s will is already revealed to man, for as Deuteronomy 29:29 informs us, “The secret things belong to Jehovah our God, but the revealed things belong to us and to our sons forever, so that we may do all the words of this Law.”
In the Book of Ezekiel, chapters 36 and 37, we find 20 times where the will of God is stated, as He lays out 20 of His “will’s” to do things for us: 20 initiatives of His for our deliverance, restoration and well-being. There are 11 initiatives for the land of Israel itself and 8 for His chosen people. Yes, these initiatives are specific to His first covenant and to the chosen land of Israel and to His chosen people, for God never changes. God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and His Word is truth and can be relied upon.
As God did not send His only begotten son Jesus to Calvary to save us because we are worthy or deserving, similarly, he did not make a decision covenant with, and to bless Israel, because of their faithfulness or because they were deserving. As Ezekiel 36:22 says “Therefore say to the house of Israel, So says the Lord Jehovah: I do not do this for your sake, O house of Israel, but for My holy name’s sake, which you have profaned among the nations where you went.” Yes, God chose and chooses us as he chose Israel, for his own name’s sake; simply because that was His Will.
11 Initiatives in the Will of God for the Land of Israel:
1 | “I will turn to you” (Look upon you with favour) – Ezekiel 36:9 “For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you shall be tilled and sown.” |
2 | “You will be tilled and sown” – Ezekiel 36:9 |
3 | “I will multiply men upon you” – Ezekiel 36:10 “And I will multiply men on you, all the house of Israel, all of it. And the cities shall have people, and the wastes shall be built.” |
4 | “I will multiply on your… beast (livestock)” – Ezekiel 36:11 “And I will multiply men and beast on you, and they shall increase and be fruitful. And I will make you dwell as before, and I will do better to you than at your beginnings. And you shall know that I am Jehovah.” |

8 | “I will cause men to walk on you, My people Israel” – Ezekiel 36:12 “Yea, I will cause men to walk on you, even My people Israel. And they shall possess you, and you shall be their inheritance, and not any more will increase their bereavement.” |
9 | “You will be their (Israel’s) inheritance” – Ezekiel 36:12 |

11 | “I will sanctify My great name” – Ezekiel 36:23 “And I will sanctify My great name, which was profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst. And the nations shall know that I am Jehovah, says the Lord Jehovah, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. |
20 Initiatives in the Will of God for the His people:
1 | He will bring us home: – Ezekiel 36:24 “For I will take you from among the nations and gather you out of all lands, and will gather you into your own land.” |

13 | He will perform His word: – Ezekiel 36:36b “I Jehovah have spoken it, and I will do it.” |
14 | He will hear my prayers: – Ezekiel 36:37b “I will be sought by the house of Israel to act for them.” |
15 | He will add people into our lives and add blessings and strength: – Ezekiel 36:36c-38 “I will increase them with men like a flock. As a holy flock, as the flock of Jerusalem in her appointed feasts, so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men. And they shall know that I am Jehovah.” |
16 | He will revive us: – Ezekiel 37:5b “I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live.” |

18 | He will give us inspiration and authority: – Ezekiel 37:6c “I will …. breath in you, and you shall live.” |
19 | He will bring us into His destiny: – Ezekiel 37:12b “I … will bring you into the land of Israel.” |
20 | He will anoint us with His spirit: – Ezekiel 37:14a “I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live.” |
As God gave Moses His “Will’s” He did not expect Ezekiel just to sit back and meditate on them, nor was that what Ezekiel did. The same is true for us. When we hear and when we understand the Will of God for our lives, we are not to sit back in spiritual pride, but to act on God sovereign will. A ‘Sovereign’ is a King, and when a King declares his will, it is a legal and statutory declaration and failure to obey is treason, and the result of treason is death. So it is with God, who is the King of Kings.
When we look into Ezekiel 37 we find God saying:
v4 “Again He said to me, Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the Word of Jehovah.”
v9 “And He said to me, Prophesy to the Spirit, prophesy, son of man, and say to the Spirit, So says the Lord Jehovah: Come from the four winds, O Spirit, and breathe on these dead ones so that they may live.”
v12 ” Therefore prophesy and say to them, So says the Lord Jehovah: Behold, O My people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up out of your graves, and will bring you into the land of Israel.”
Three times God asked Ezekiel to prophesy to dry bones.
What is the will of God for us? Acts 2:17 links directly back to Ezekiel 37 saying: “And it shall be in the last days, says God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh. And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.”
No, we, as born-again Christians are not so sit back either, but to move forward in the will of God, prophesying, dreaming and seeing vision. As God has taken the initiative and prepared us for our overcoming, we are to then take the initiative and proclaim His Word and grasp His promises and act on them, such that we may receive fulfilment and that we may fulfill our destiny in Christ at it was determined at the birth of this world.
As Ezekiel was to pray and prophesy life into dry bones, from which an army was to be raised, we are that army, into which God has breathed life as we became reborn in Him; as we took of the old man and put on the new. God’s will, is our will. There is no dubiety on this point.
But there is more for us in Ezekiel 36 and 37 as God lays down His personal Will for us and our lives today:
The 8 “You will’s,” the 8 imperatives, from God to us:
1 | “You will be clean” – Ezekiel 36:2b “I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from your idols.” |
2 | “You will dwell in the land which I gave to your fathers” – Ezekiel 36:28a |
3 | “You will be my people” – Ezekiel 36:28b “You shall be My people, and I will be your God.” |
4 | “And you shall remember your own evil ways, and your bad deeds, and will loathe yourselves in your own sight, for your iniquities and for your abominations. “ – Ezekiel 36:31 “And you shall remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall despise yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.” |
5 | “You will live” – Ezekiel 37:6b “I will ….. put breath in you, and you shall live. “ |
6 | “You will know that I am the Lord” – Ezekiel 37:6c “And you shall know that I am Jehovah.” |
7 | “You will live (Spiritually)” – Ezekiel 37:14b “I shall put My Spirit in you, and you shall live.” |
8 | “You will know that I, the Lord, have spoken it and performed it” – Ezekiel 37:14d “You shall know that I Jehovah have spoken and have done it, says Jehovah.” |
