God Will Restore What the Cankerworm Has Eaten
“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the canker-worm, and the caterpillar, and the palmer-worm, my great army which I sent among you” Joel 2:25.
God is the business of restoring lives. The enemy is he who has come to kill and destroy. Many today have lost jobs, family members, health, and a myriad of other things.
Sometimes it probably seems like God has abandoned us, but this is most assuredly not true. I believe that there are seasons that we all go through in this life. There are times in our lives when it seems like everything is going fine.
We are financially secure, we are successful, and our family members are healthy and thriving. There are other times when the sky above us is dark and foreboding, and it seems like the trials of life are never-ending. Everything that could go wrong seems to go wrong.
The car breaks down, the bills can’t be paid, and our relationships seem to be caustic and without love.
All of us go through periods of time like this. But perhaps some of us have hit a place in the road where these trials and events seem to go on without an end in sight.
The verse above speaks to those who have been or are presently in that situation now. Those who are farmers know of the devastation that a swarm of locusts can do with a field of corn, milo, or wheat.
During the 1930’s many, especially in the mid-west, experienced this every day for months and even a few years. The top soil had been taken away due to the immense swarm of insects that preyed upon the crops.
Rain was scarce, and families found what little peace they could find in cloths and blankets that were set in the windows to keep the dust and insects from coming inside their homes. These had experienced the physical reality of what these types of insects can do with their livelihood.
But the cankerworm and the locust preys upon us today in many ways even more insidious than the blight of the dust bowl in the dirty 1930’s. Those who for years had a steady paycheck to provide for their family, find out that they cannot depend upon their job of 20 or 30 years now.
They may have even found themselves in a place of desperation as their family has been split up. But in spite of the seeming utter hopelessness of some of these situations, God is there and he is in the process of restoring what had been taken away.
What had been intended by the enemy as a way of causing utter loss and hopelessness, God will renew the land that had been stolen, and even now, is on the road to restoration. The patriarch Job had suffered the loss of children, livestock, homes, and even his own flesh. His wife even mocked him and had said that he might as well “curse God and die.”
But he chose to continue to believe and have faith, in spite of what was happening around him. And as we know everything was restored back to him doubly. He now had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 teams of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys.
Many of us are living in a winter season where each day has seemed to chill our faith and to cause us to think that spring time will never come.
But God is causing those winters to shorten, and a new season will arrive for us. It is right on the horizon, and with it, comes a destruction of the insects that have devastated our homes and lives earlier.
Amen.
Selah,

Stephen Hanson of In His Truth Ministries came to the LORD is a special way in 1975 and has prophesied regularly since. In these end-time birthing pangs we are reminded that judgment must first begin with the household of God. Will we be prepared and ready?
My next door neighbor has been making the day to day difficult. I claim this verse knowing God is in control. I lean on Him for the justice to be meted out to the neighbor. I am a woman on my own and I feel as though the neighbor takes advantage of that. After ten years, God has shown Himself. I know that this situation is going to end and God will restore the years the locusts have eaten.
I woke up about one am and the lord told me that he would give me back the years that the cankerworm had eaten. I didn’t know what a cankerworm was, so I looked it up, which led me to this sight. I really enjoyed the commentary. Thank you.
I’m waiting on Yahshua for my restoration time he will bless us only be strong and of good courage
Thank you for your word. I’ve been struggling recently having gone through a recent divorce to a “man of God” that abused me in every way but physically. God reminded me of His promise to restore what cankerworm has eaten. I read about the cankerworm and it said “most of the damage occurs about the time the leaves become fully developed.” This was the case for me. I was doing very well physically, spiritually and emotionally. I was ministering as a chaplain. My new husband took all that from me, but I know now God is giving it back to me.
I am praying tonight for my sister in Christ, Diane, whose son is wrongly imprisoned for many years and who has suffered a mental breakdown. Thank you for your commentary on this passage, which strengthens our hearts and gives us hope in this situation.
Thank you for the encouragement I really needed to hear this God Bless you.
Thank you for your encouragement. I had a hard place right now and it looks like there’s no ending to my toil. It looks like that financially, I am going to lose everything yet I do praise the Lord just because it’s good. I’m in a very hard place but I believe that God is going to restore me.
Right now .. I look back on my life and see the wasted years.. I just turned 62 and this hit me hard.. not only is this hitting me but my body aches with joint pains.. especially my knees.. everything appears hopeless… but the Lord gave me this scripture and another. Psalms 103:5 ..
It seems I have none to talk to as I walk through this dark time in my life except the Lord..
I try to explain what I am feeling but the words can’t describe the feelings.
Even my wife seems not to understand…
Hi Daniel,
Yes, as you know, Psalm 103:5 says “Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
However, as I read your comment I was reminded that the Word says in Matthew 15:11, that “it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.”
I believe that is what The LORD wants you to focus on.
For as Proverbs 18:21 says, “death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
So seek speak life into your own situation, as you do into the situations of the others around you, for what you sow, you shall reap. Sow life and reap life!
Blessings in Christ Jesus,
Angus
I heard the Lord and my spirit begin to talk about the Locust and the cankerworm so I pulled it up on Google and I stroll down and I got to this one and I enjoyed the reading thanks for the encouragement I needed that at this time God bless
