Give Careful Thought To Your Ways
A psalm to praise and sing to God, out loud.
Give Careful Thought To Your Ways
Give careful thought to your ways
Even though you planted much
You harvested little
Come out from your worldly ways—
You can plant and water
But only God makes things grow
Even though you eat
You never have enough
You drink
But never have your fill
You put on clothes
But are not warm
You earn wages
Only to put them in a purse with holes in it.
You expected much
But it turned out to be little
Give careful thought to your ways
For you build your houses
While in ruins His remains
You neglect Him in all ways
Instead of honoring Him
So He blows away what you bring home
He withholds the dew from the heavens
And the crops from the earth
He calls for a drought upon the land
And all the labor of your hands
Oh people of God, listen!
He’s trying to get your attention!
Come together and work
On the House of The LORD
Be strong all you peoples of the land and work!
For the LORD God Almighty is with you!
Not by Might,
Not by Power
But by His SPIRIT
He will instruct
He will lead
And at the End
He will shake the earth and heavens
He will shake all nations
And the glory of this present house
Will be greater than the glory of the former house
And in this house He will grant peace
Give careful thought to your ways
Return to Him
And He will return to you
Build His House and honor Him
And His Favor will be with you
Build up His House strong and sturdy
Place stones on top of those already there
Bring down timber from the mountains
And glorify your God
Who has blessed and favored you above all others
Oh rebuild, rebuild His House!
Rebuild His Holy Temple!
Honor Him!
Give careful thought to your ways
Oh return to Him
And He will return to you
Oh do you not know that you too
Are His Holy Temple?
You are a people set apart
With His SPIRIT inside you?
“Be Holy for I AM Holy!”
Not by Might,
Not by Power
But by His SPIRIT
He will instruct
He will lead
And at the End
He will shake the earth and heavens
He will shake all nations
And the glory of this present house
Will be greater than the glory of the former house
And in this house He will grant peace
Give careful thought to your ways
Return to Him and He will return to you
For the glory of this present house
Will be greater than the glory of the former house
And in this house He will grant peace
Return to Him and He will return to you!
“Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?” Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.” This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored,” says the Lord. “You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?” declares the Lord Almighty. “Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house. Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops. I called for a drought on the fields and the mountains, on the grain, the new wine, the olive oil and everything else the ground produces, on people and livestock, and on all the labor of your hands.” Haggai 1:4-11
“But now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ declares the Lord. ‘Be strong, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,’ declares the Lord, ‘and work. For I am with you,’ declares the Lord Almighty.” Haggai 2:4
“This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the Lord Almighty. ‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the Lord Almighty.” Haggai 2:6-9
“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
“Therefore tell the people: This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Return to me,’ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘and I will return to you,’ says the Lord Almighty.” Zechariah 1:3
“Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.” Zechariah 4:6
“This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Now hear these words, ‘Let your hands be strong so that the temple may be built.’ This is also what the prophets said who were present when the foundation was laid for the house of the Lord Almighty.” Zechariah 8:9
“The seed will grow well, the vine will yield its fruit, the ground will produce its crops, and the heavens will drop their dew. I will give all these things as an inheritance to the remnant of this people.” Zechariah 8:12
