Four Legs Good, Two Legs Bad
“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free,” John 8:32.
“Four Legs Good, Two Legs Bad,” this phrase comes from the great novel by George Orwell, Animal Farm.
This is one of the Seven Commandments of Animalism that came out of Snowball’s speech. He was a pig, who was one of the major characters in the book.
The phrase originally came from Old Major’s speech when he was talking about animal unity in the form of human expression.
The phrase also dramatizes the many instances of how propaganda is used in a book.
We see how the elite uses this language in order to control the lower classes.
The slogan that is repeated would seem to help the animals achieve their goal and yet in the end, it becomes a meaningless phrase, oftentimes bleated by the sheep and most of the other animals.
But by the very end of the novel, the words have changed to “Four legs good, two legs better.”
The words are said to drown out the dissent of the lower class, and yet we see this same type of propaganda today.
For today we see even more and more how propaganda and lies have infiltrated the masses where lies are believed to be the truth.
The repeated phrase of “fake news” is said again and again, as it is attempted to silence the media.
These types of attempted squelching were done many years ago in Germany that once had begun with the presumptions of making the land great.
A perfect race was planned to come forth and those who stood up or disagreed were quickly exterminated.
I’m not necessarily equating the two regimes as one and same, and yet there are dangerous subtleties that continue to come forth each and every day.
A continual hazy maze is seen every day that the people need to try and navigate through. Sides are drawn as each camp yells from the sidelines passionately giving their responses as they wave their flags of supposed patriotism.
And yet most aren’t even aware that the enemy of our souls is the very culprit that has caused this division. It’s almost like some have their eyes blinded by this enemy so that they can’t even see the truth.
Propaganda is piped through conspiratorial stories that twist the truth to follow slogans and lies to strengthen the case.
The fact that I am even proposing these things will cause some to rise-up in arms passionately denying them.
No matter how eloquent or wise one would propose these things the crowd will still throw rocks from their designated places.
One may note how the Pharisees circled around the woman caught in adultery, and how they were so quick to begin throwing rocks at her.
Perhaps it’s not an apropos comparison because not all of us are Pharisees, and the case is certainly not against a woman caught in adultery.
And yet some are so vehement in their belief in certain accounts that what should be proclaimed as the truth is seen as fake.
So in time the phrase “Four legs good, two legs bad” gets repeated so many times that now it is believed.
Instead, I guess we could say, “Truth is fake” again and again until the masses believe.
Then in the end both Snowball and Old Major will stand erect and those who were once animals will now be seen with their masks of who they really are.
