First Love
First Love is ardent, pure and passionate
Desiring the fullness of being intimate
Eyes only focused on the object of affection
Tempted not by selfish ambition
First love is a raging fire
Consuming the heart’s other desires
Steadfast and steady pledging undying devotion
Confidently declaring, “This is more than emotion”
With the passing of time, First Love is tested
Distractions arise, new services requested
Passions cool from intimacy to the familiar
Slipping silently into shoes that hinder
The once raging fire, now only smolders
Crowded out by cares weighing down the shoulders
Inattentive to the voice of the Dearly Beloved
Too busy now to nurture First Love
Come back, My dove, and sit with Me
The Beloved calls and the Spirit agrees
Return to Your First Love where there is safety
The hour is late, the land full of iniquity
My scepter extended, come quickly to My side
Put on the garments fashioned for My Bride
Rekindle First Love, it will quench your thirst
Remember, My dove, I loved you first
