Finding The Courage to Ask Other for Help
Emotional change takes time! No quick fixes. NOPE!
It requires commitment and perseverance (stick-to-itiveness) in order to learn who we are authentically (meaning discovering who the real you is) and move on and into life with purpose and with greater peace.
Many of our painful issues have taken root and were embedded over time.
Perseverance (determination) challenges you and I to stay in the fight to regain ourselves! It takes courage to face our fears and hold onto ourselves in tense moments of discovery.
It’s a state of “being” and a determined act! Here are some key insights to remember about perseverance, and please remember, it’s a process of moving from one revelation of finding out who our real self is, to the next revelation of REAL self.
Walter Elliot said, “It is not a long race; it is many short races, one after another.”
✅ To persevere requires that we shed whatever it takes in order to get
✅ It stretches our spirit to continue enduring in spite of difficulty and delay in achieving healthy living and Persevering to the end empowers us to live in the present moment without embracing those welling and raging triggers of low self-worth, anxiety and depression.
✅ Perseverance allows us to endure to the end of one process while transitioning to the next process. As we move from one stage to another, we learn to become our authentic self.
✅ Each step we take to endure whatever we are going through will get us to a deeper state of resilience.
It takes time to work through the wounds of our past that leave the residue of distrust, guilt and shame.
Dear friend, It takes perseverance when you are walking through things in a counseling environment, to reconcile with past failures, emotional abusers, those who intentionally withhold love, those who lie about you or to you, domestic violence, anger issues or low self-esteem.
It’s a process of shedding those things that hold us back from our peace, joy and grace.
The power of perseverance expands our capacity to acknowledge our past while embracing the joy of living in the “here and now”.
Counseling and perseverance are partners in the process of wholeness, healing and authenticity, (being or finding the real you”).
Counseling provides a gracious place to process areas of our lives that no longer work. Most of the time we don’t realize that something doesn’t work until there is enough pain or a trauma attached to an event that we seek out help.
OR…. stuff it back down inside and self medicate with drugs, alcohol, food, or get lost in video games or television.
Denial set in and so does manipulating the narrative to protect pain.
But the pain festers anyway.
Pain can become a powerful change agent for growth and maturity. As we admit that pain, allow skilled counsel in our lives to help us see things from a different perspective and start to process those painful areas of our lives, we can discover some of the following things:
🔴 The determination to love people who do not love us back.
🔴 The readiness to identify why anger has consumed your life.
🔴 The courage to confront the fears that keep you from moving forward.
🔴 The realization that abuse is not a form of love.
🔴 The desire to move from defense mechanisms where reasoning or using intellectual dialog to block confrontation with an unconscious conflict. (It’s associated emotional stress – where thinking is used to avoid feeling.)
🔴 The will to attack and address the defense mechanism of conflict and engage in meaningful self-reflection honesty about bitterness, a need to control others, cowering in fear of others and more.
Often people who enter counseling are not ready to confront or face what hinders them or what has a stranglehold on their life.
In reality, none of us can address what we do not confront.
Go before God and ask Him for courage!! He really is able to empower you! Learn to see Him as He really is…. not what you “think” He is or who others have said He is!
“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you,” Deuteronomy 31:6.
It’s time to face what is holding you back.
It’s time to widen your awareness of all that you can be now! Get the support you need to move forward!

Let’s lift our hearts in Prayer together right now and ask for the courage that God so freely offers us:
Prayer for Strength and Guidance
O Lord, I give you my worries and concerns and I ask for your guidance and I ask for Courage right now.
You see it all, the outer circumstances, the inner turmoil.
I know that you understand my life, that sometimes my heart weighs heavy with trouble.
Right now I lay all these things before you.
I breathe in, safe in the knowledge that I am held by grace.
I breathe out, knowing that I am held secure in your arms, and I wait on you.
For you are all truth, you are overflowing love, you are a beacon of hope and a fortress of faith.
Lord, I choose to be attentive to your voice. I choose to press in, to risk, to persevere.
May I be alert to your Spirit’s guiding as I journey onwards with you. I love you Father.
Amen.
“Dear Brothers and Sisters, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: I am forgetting what lies behind me and I am straining forward, persevering to know what lies ahead,” Philippians 3:13.
