Expanding our View and Understanding of Personal Prophecy
“Without counsel purposes are disappointed : but in the multitude of counsellors they are established” Proverbs 15:22.
I am understanding some things about personal prophecy that I think need to be said. Typically a prophet or prophetic person, will give a word to an individual and even if it hits the target and is from the Lord, sometimes the person still wonders about aspects of the word.
Allow me to elaborate some on this further so that we have more clarity on the subject. As I said, a word will be given, and sometimes the receiver of that word may still have questions that they might have concerning it.
They may wonder how these things may come to pass, or perhaps what they need to do for this word to come to pass. You see, oftentimes, these types of words are knitted together in such a way that they are conditional.
We need to perhaps do something. You mean to tell me that a prophecy like this just won’t automatically happen? Yes, that is what I’m saying. We have freedom of choice and we as human beings have a free will. But even when we may follow what the Lord has for us according to a “true word” from Him, we may still be left “hanging.”
I believe that the prophet needs to have a spirit of counsel so that he or she can help the person and provide guidance towards the fulfillment of that prophetic word. If indeed, someone is told that they will help deliver many from the kingdom of darkness, well, they may wonder how this can begin.
Of course the Lord himself will and does open doors, and He can make it clear and obvious with certain signposts along the way. But there still may well be questions and concerns about these things.
Where should I begin? Do I need to become part of a group or church that specializes or focuses on these things? What if someone is told that they are to be a missionary to the people of Indonesia? Are they to just simply pack up their belongings, sell their home, and buy plane tickets?
It’s wise to know that oftentimes, these things may take a considerable amount of time and planning to know how to proceed. Here again, I believe there are “steps” to be done in the journey of the fulfillment of that prophecy.
Also, and even more importantly, one must always know that someone should not step out doing something just because they received a “true” prophetic word for them. Gather together several whom you trust as wise counselors for you. Seek the Lord and allow Him to confirm the word through His Spirit and through the words from scripture. Then you will have gained added strength and wisdom for the journey ahead.
Lastly, God has given all of us ears to hear from Him. Learn to seek Him. He is near, and is wanting you to know what He has in store for you. You don’t need to go to a seminar to know about these things. He alone will speak to you if you can silence yourself enough to hear His voice above the clamor and confusion that is all around you.
Amen.

Stephen Hanson of In His Truth Ministries came to the Lord is a special way in 1975 and has been prophesying regularly since. In these end-time birthing pangs we are to be reminded that judgment must first begin with the household of God. Will we be prepared and ready?
