Elisha & His Miracles — Part 1
See Part 2 here.
I started doing this study because The LORD said to me a couple years ago that He was releasing the Elisha’s now.
Years ago a young woman told me to embrace the ministry of Elisha, that “though Elijah was fiery and dramatic, Elisha was quiet but more powerful.”
I had no idea at that time of the symbolism involved, in that Elisha represents the ministry of Jesus, whilst Elijah is the one who prepared His coming.
Just as John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus, and Jesus said, HE was the Elijah to come.
God told me that these times would be a recapitulation of fulfilled prophecies. So now we’re going to look at the life of Elisha and the types of miracles he did.
There is a teaching in the Church that The Holy Spirit only RESTED on the prophets, but not inside them, like after Jesus came. But I find this questionable.
Someone just putting a dead body on the buried dead bones of Elisha was raised to life. So I would say, The Spirit of God still resided on Elisha’s body though dead.
I attended once a briss by a rabbi who I know walked in holiness, because when I came to it, I felt so powerfully The Spirit of God on him, that I was trembling, and shaking just like in Church.
It was held in the home of a woman who was a former prostitute and she and her ex-mafia husband had turned to Christ and now were naming their son Matthew (which means Gift of God.)
Referring to an artist working on the temple… Exodus 31:3 KJV
“And I have filled him with The Spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,”
and in this passage He says: Numbers 27:18,
“So The LORD said to Moses, “Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him.”
The Spirit did not ever say he only rested on the prophets or person. But the Spirit could be taken from them just as with Saul who disobeyed, whereas after Jesus gave his life for us, the Spirit promised He would NEVER leave except for blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
Let’s begin to look at Elisha and his life to see what we can learn about the end times army, and the Spirit of Christ in us the Hope of Glory for these end times.
“And The LORD said to him, [Elijah] Go, return on your way to the Wilderness of Damascus; and when you arrive, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria. And anoint Jehu son of Nimshi to be king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah to be prophet in your place. And him who escapes from the sword of Hazael Jehu shall slay, and him who escapes the sword of Jehu Elisha shall slay,” 1 Kings 19:15-21 AMP.
Wow, so Elijah is told to anoint Hazael king over Syria. And he’s told to anoint JEHU to be King over Israel and Elisha to be the prophet to replace him. (Elisha means God of supplication as in crying out to The LORD,or God of riches.)
Shaphat, the name of His father means to Judge, to govern,to pronounce sentence. Abel-Meholah, the name of the town he came from means meadow of DANCING — thus a place of worship.
Then GOD says this amazing thing. He who escapes the sword of Hazael, Jehu shall slay, and he who escapes Jehu, ELISHA shall slay!
This sounds to me like God awaited the right men to appoint together to destroy the wickedness in Israel, by setting it up so that strong men would deal with the rebellious, and if anyone escapes their sword, He had another in his place to deal with it.
Back UP it seems to me was important to destroy the wickedness. That’s why cops have partners, and why apostles had partners. One can set a thousand to flight and two can set ten thousand to flight the scripture says.
“Yet I will leave Myself 7,000 in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him,” * 1 Kings 19:18.
Re: 7000
1000 is the number of Divine completeness and the GLORY OF GOD
7 is the number of completeness, fullness, spiritual perfection.
Kissing Baal sounds gross but every mouth that has not honored that wicked demon or gone whoring after him, is the meaning here.
The mouth is an instrument of perversion in Baal worship which is full of sexual perversion; as is Freemasonry in our nation.
Kisses from God however, or Jesus, Mike Bickle got that it represented revelation from God. Witchcraft’s Diviners get revelation from the opposite source.
“So Elijah left there and found Elisha son of Shaphat, whose plowing was being done with twelve yoke of oxen, and he drove the twelfth. Elijah crossed over to him and cast his mantle upon him,” 1 Kings 19:19.
Elisha is sitting on the 12th ox and 12 is the number of apostolic government and power.
Elijah casts his mantle on him. Just as John the Baptist pointed his followers to Jesus, Here there is a greater anointing coming on Elisha.
Jesus said that John the Baptist was the Elijah to come. Jesus is coming into the Church and with Him the DOUBLE anointing that came to Elisha, has been spoken by other prophets.
“He left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, Let me kiss my father and mother, and then I will follow you. And he [testing Elisha] said, Go on back. What have I done to you? [Settle it for yourself.] So Elisha went back from him. Then he took a yoke of oxen, slew them, boiled their flesh with the oxen’s yoke [as fuel], and gave to the people, and they ate. Then he arose, followed Elijah, and served him. [2 Kings 3:11.] 1 Kings 19:20-21.
I feel like as I read this that the yoke he used for fuel, [representing] breaking the yoke of bondage to things of this world. And the oxen that wore it assuming it was two he boiled and gave to people to eat. He would not be using them anymore, so gave them to feed others.
Much like Jesus called His disciples and they left everything to follow him. Also The LORD told the rich young ruler to sell all he had and follow him. Not all have to do that but early apostles did. And our things must not have us.
We are only stewards of what we have. God owns it all, for it is from Him that all blessings flow. Elisha now follows Elijah to be discipled by him.
“WHEN The LORD was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were going from Gilgal. And Elijah said to Elisha, Tarry here, I pray you, for The LORD has sent me to Bethel. But Elisha replied, As The LORD lives and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they went down to Bethel. The prophets’ sons who were at Bethel came to Elisha and said, Do you know that The LORD will take your master away from you today? He said, Yes, I know it; hold your peace,” 2 Kings 2:1-3 AMP.
So Elisha knows Elijah is to be taken up this day, and there is NO WAY he is going to leave him alone for he knows his calling, and tells him, NO WAY will I leave you.
It reminds me of Ruth and Naomi, as Ruth would not let her go alone. The prophets at Bethel ask him if he knows Elijah is going up, he says yes, but HOLD YOUR PEACE.
In other words have peace about that. This not an easy thing to lose the man who is his loving mentor — The man who confronted Ahab and Baal’s prophets.
“Elijah said to him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray you, for The LORD has sent me to Jericho. But he said, As The LORD lives and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they came to Jericho. The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho came to Elisha and said, Do you know that The LORD will take your master away from you today? And he answered, Yes, I know it; hold your peace,” 2 Kings 2:4-5 AMP.
Twice now young prophets question him about his knowledge of Elijah leaving. [Jericho is close to Jerusalem, and means to blow, to breathe, to smell to perceive from (H7306)]
“Elijah said to him, Tarry here, I pray you, for The LORD has sent me to the Jordan. But he said, As The LORD lives and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. And the two of them went on,” 2 Kings 2:6 AMP.
That’s a third time now the place of meeting is changed by The LORD, and Elijah is urging Elisha to stay.
To me it seems a test for Elisha. How much do you want this mantle? How far are you willing to go, how flexible are you?
Things an apostle needs in his walk, are perseverance, and flexibility. Jesus gave up everything for us, to redeem us unto Himself, likewise we need to follow Him and do the same if we want more of Him.
“Fifty men of the sons of the prophets also went and stood [to watch] afar off; and the two of them stood by the Jordan,” 2 Kings 2:7 AMP.
50 is the number of jubilee, Freedom. So my impression is that it represents the freedom God brings to those He has called to go for Him, the complete breaking of chains.
“And Elijah took his mantle and rolled it up and struck the waters, and they divided this way and that, so that the two of them went over on dry ground. And when they had gone over, Elijah said to Elisha, ask what I shall do for you before I am taken from you. And Elisha said, I pray you, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me,” 2 Kings 2:8-9 AMP..
Elijah like Moses, strikes the waters and they part so they can go over on dry ground.
The apostolic is the ministry of Jesus in our midst; easily recognized by holiness and the powerful miracles accompanying it.
Interesting how Elijah says ASK WHAT I SHALL DO for you before I’m taken up. Was he asking him to ask God, or himself do you think?
“He said, You have asked a hard thing. However, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you — but if not, it shall not be so. And Elisha saw it and he cried, My father, my father! The chariot of Israel and its horsemen! and he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces. He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan,” 2 Kings 2:10-13 AMP.
Elijah says, you have asked a hard thing. Here it means tough or severe, cruel even. I think the hard thing is the responsibility Elijah knows what goes with such an anointing.
But then he says [I’m sure by the Spirit], if you see me when I’m taken up, then you will have what you ask for.
And indeed, he sees him, and the mantle is taken up by Elisha by the bank of the Jordan, and broken, he tears his own clothes, in a state of grief, that Elijah is taken from him, and Elisha takes the mantle and smites the waters, and says ‘Where is The LORD God of Elijah?’, and behold the waters part, and he was able to cross over just as he and Elijah had. [Miracle 1]
“And he took the mantle that fell from Elijah and struck the waters and said, Where is The LORD, the God of Elijah? And when he had struck the waters, they parted this way and that, and Elisha went over.
When the sons of the prophets who were [watching] at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha. And they came to meet him and bowed themselves to the ground before him. And they said to him, Behold now, there are among your servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray you, and seek your master. It may be that the Spirit of The LORD has taken him up and cast him on some mountain or into some valley. And he said, You shall not send. But when they urged him till he was embarrassed, he said, Send. So they sent fifty men, who sought for three days but did not find him,” 2 Kings 2:14-17 AMP.
So the 50 [ Jubilee prophets – representing End times prophets] embarrass him as if he is selfish and think Elijah could be somewhere else, till he says yes to them to try and find Elijah.
This is amusing because such doubt will likely be upon those around us in this hour when the Spirit is poured out, by even those who should understand. Other prophets. But of course they are proved foolish by their young new leader.
“When they returned to Elisha, who had waited at Jericho, he said to them, Did I not tell you, Do not go? And the men of the city said to Elisha, Behold, inhabiting of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees, but the water is bad and the locality causes miscarriage and barrenness [in all animals]. He said, Bring me a new bowl and put salt [the symbol of God’s purifying power] in it. And they brought it to him.
Then Elisha went to the spring of the waters and cast the salt in it and said, Thus says The LORD: I [not the salt] have healed these waters; there shall not be any more death, miscarriage or barrenness [and bereavement] because of it.
So the waters were healed to this day, as Elisha had said,” 2 Kings 2:18-21 AMP. [Miracle #2]
I believe this miracle #2 is representative of end times prophets breaking the barrenness off of those living in death and error in this hour.
It says the waters were healed to this day. The language is similar when talking about end times in Ezekiel 47.
“He went up from Jericho to Bethel. On the way, young [maturing and accountable] boys came out of the city and mocked him and said to him, Go up [in a whirlwind], you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead! And he turned around and looked at them and called a curse down on them in the name of The LORD. And two she-bears came out of the woods and ripped up forty-two of the boys. Elisha went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria,” 2 Kings 2:23-25 AMP [Miracle #3]
WOW! Don’t make fun and mock true prophets. They disrespected the prophet, and instead of prophets reward got a prophet’s curse, and BEARs come out of the forest.
Not just bears, but SHE BEARS. Protective mothers destroy the huge group of boys mocking. 42 young men is a lot of men, so that seems like a flash mob to me!
Symbolically, 42 is the number of Israel’s oppression, LORD’s advent, achievement.
So this represents destroying the oppression over the people of Israel. And we are also grafted into Israel now with Jesus’s redemption.
God is very protective of His prophets. Though to us, sometimes it seems not because of the pain and suffering we’ve endured as a cost for what is coming.
In this end times awakening God will greatly use his people in apostolic power/demonstration. Startling miracles of salvation, healing and deliverance will flow from His mighty army.
* Three Kings – Judah, Israel and Edom Go to Fight Moab
“Then the king of Israel said, Alas! The LORD has called [us] three kings together to be delivered into Moab’s hand!” 2 Kings 3:10 AMP.
Definitely not a vote of confidence…
“But Jehoshaphat said, Is there no prophet of The LORD here by whom we may inquire of The LORD? One of the king of Israel’s servants answered, Elisha son of Shaphat, who served Elijah,is here. Jehoshaphat said, The word of The LORD is with him. So Joram king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to Elisha,” 2 Kings 3:11-12 AMP.
Jehoshaphat responds to the King of Israel’s fear by saying, is there no prophet?
He is informed of Elisha and he and Joram go down to see Elisha.
“And Elisha said to the king of Israel, What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your [wicked] father Ahab and your [wicked] mother Jezebel. But the king of Israel said to him, No, for The LORD has called [us] three kings together to be delivered into the hand of Moab,” 2 Kings 3:13 AMP.
Elisha sees the king of Israel with them and responds in mocking adulation, how can I have anything to do with you [ and your wickedness].
Go to your father Ahab and mother Jezebel’s —- prophets [ of Baal] if you need help, like let them and their gods save you.
“And Elisha said, As The LORD of hosts lives, before Whom I stand, surely, were it not that I respect the presence of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, I would neither look at you nor see you [King Joram]. But now bring me a minstrel. And while the minstrel played, the hand and power of The LORD came upon [Elisha],” 2 Kings 3:14-15 AMP.
But because Jehoshaphat was with the king of Israel, Elisha calls for the minstrel.
Here we see an example of how worship invites the Holy Spirit’s presence that prophecy may be released to him. Worship brings Presence of God, for God inhabits the praises of His people, so Elisha received an answer.
This end times army will be a worshipping army. Worshipers will be supernaturally led of The LORD.
“And he said, “Thus says The LORD: Make this [dry] brook bed full of trenches.
For thus says The LORD: You shall not see wind or rain, yet that ravine shall be filled with water, so you, your cattle, and your beasts [of burden] may drink.
This is but a light thing in the sight of The LORD. He will deliver the Moabites also into your hands. You shall smite every fenced city and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree and stop all wells of water and mar every good piece of land with stones,” 2 Kings 3:16-19 AMP.
Miracle #4 Miracle of the war trenches and confusion in the camp of the enemy.
So he tells them to dig trenches and The LORD would bring water to fill them so their animals could drink. This was another miracle. Then also He said they would have victory over Moab, destroying everything basically.
“In the morning, when the sacrifice was offered, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water. When all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, all who were able to put on armor, young and old, gathered and drew up at the border. When they rose up early next morning, and the sun shone upon the water, the Moabites saw the water across from them as red as blood! And they said, This is blood; the kings have surely been fighting and have slain one another. Now then, Moab, to the spoil! But when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them. And they went forward, slaying the Moabites as they went,” 2 Kings 3:20-24 AMP.
Woe! God intervenes, even in a way that would be startling to us, in changing their vision to see something other that what really was happening so as to lure them into the hands of Israel! God can do anything.
In a time when I was very sick, going through the valley of the shadow of death, I couldn’t pay for registering my car for many months, I would ask God to hide me from the police whenever I had to go out. He did it.
I’m not saying to purposely disobey laws — just that when in desperate place that is not your fault, God will do miracles.
“They beat down the cities [walls], and on every good piece of land every man cast a stone, covering it [with stones]. And they stopped all the springs of water and felled all the good trees, until only the stones [of the walls of Moab’s capital city] of Kir-hareseth were left standing, and the slingers surrounded and took it. And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was against him, he took with him 700 swordsmen to break through to the king of Edom, but they could not. Then he [Moab’s king] took his eldest son, who was to reign in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering on the wall [in full view of the horrified enemy kings],” 2 Kings 3:25-27 AMP.
Typical of Baal worship, the king of Moab offers his own eldest son and kills him in sacrifice on the wall in full view of the kings. Disgusted, they all leave and return home.
Can you imagine? Unfortunately in this hour, it has become believable in our time due to all the uncovering of violence including violence against children.
Slingers refers to those who CARVE in a circular motion so like those who clear weeds with a machete would be slingers.
And there was great indignation, wrath, and bitterness against Israel; and they [his allies Judah and Edom] withdrew from [Joram] and returned to their own land.
Miracle #5 – Multiplication of the Oil
“NOW THE wife of a son of the prophets cried to Elisha, Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared The LORD. But the creditor has come to take my two sons to be his slaves. Elisha said to her, What shall I do for you? Tell me, what have you [of sale value] in the house? She said, Your handmaid has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.
Then he said, Go around and borrow vessels from all your neighbors, empty vessels — and not a few. And when you come in, shut the door upon you and your sons. Then pour out [the oil you have] into all those vessels, setting aside each one when it is full. So she went from him and shut the door upon herself and her sons, who brought to her the vessels as she poured the oil. When the vessels were all full, she said to her son, Bring me another vessel. And he said to her, There is not a one left. Then the oil stopped multiplying,” 2 Kings 4:1-6.
Elisha tells her to fill up empty vessels [ jars] with oil, so the oil miraculously multiplies, so she can sell it to make money to pay her debt.
Those in debt will be miraculously delivered of indebtedness in this hour too, through listening to His instructions. God will supply all our needs.
Why do you think manna is falling in Churches, on bibles?
Why do you think angels are passing out gemstones, and manifestations of gold?
It’s not just so we can be greedy. It’s a sign God is showing us, that HE can provide ANYTHING we need.
HE IS OUR RESOURCE! So be unafraid! Walk in confidence in His Word. He is instigating our FAITH in HIS provision, not blessing our greed or wantonness.
“Then she came and told the man of God. He said, Go, sell the oil and pay your debt, and you and your sons live on the rest. One day Elisha went on to Shunem, where a rich and influential woman lived, who insisted on his eating a meal. Afterward, whenever he passed by, he stopped there for a meal. And she said to her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is a holy man of God who passes by continually. Let us make a small chamber on the [housetop] and put there for him a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp. Then whenever he comes to us, he can go [up the outside stairs and rest] here. One day he came and turned into the chamber and lay there,” 2 Kings 4:7-11.
Thus as Elisha continued to do the miraculous, He was provided for, and so it is with those given totally to God’s purposes. He is FAITHFUL and will supply our every need.
