Doing God’s Will in service to Him
To serve your Master you must know what He desires you to do before you can do it. Either from guidelines prepared previously for the occasion (The Bible) or from his direct command (Guidance of The Holy Spirit).
So to do things without this knowledge is to do things in your own strength and understanding for your purposes, even though you may think they are God’s. You have not asked Him or used His guidelines for that situation as you do not if He desires to work in that situation in the way He usually does. You cannot assume He does as God is original and may do things differently to what He has done before.
Unless you know what guidelines He desires you to apply or what His Will is then you are doing things in your own strength and reasonings and for your own purposes, even though you may think they are God’s.
This makes more important the principles in verses such as :
“The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law” Deuteronomy 29:29 (ESV).
“The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple” Psalm 119:130 (NKJV)
“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come” John 16:13 (NKJV).
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God” Romans 8:14 (KJV).
So before we do anything we need to check with God:
- What is His Will in the situation.
- What does He want done about it.
- How does He want it done.
- When does He want it done.
Then we know we will be doing His Will and not something we think needs to be done.

The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand. Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread. (Psalms 37:23-25 NLT)
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. (Philippians 2:13 NLT)
That assumes people are listening unfortunately hey are not taught how to in most churches so work on reason and man’s modern methods of growth. This is why one of the three briefs I have been given is to teach people how to know they are hearing The Holy SPirit
