Does Eternal Salvation Give Believers a License to Sin?
The very first objection, by those who teach against eternal salvation, argue that such belief gives those who hold to this doctrine, a license to sin.
They who make this license statement go on by making critical reference to the so called teaching, giving it their title: “Once Saved Always Saved.”
Does the Bible ever use the term “once saved always saved”? If so where?
And if it did, would that give men “a license to sin” and live anyway they want to live?
The scriptures never use that “title,” but rather refer to salvation by grace through faith as: eternal life.
Scriptures teach about eternal life, which is freely given as a gift to all believe in the gospel message.
The gospel message proclaims that God sent His only Son to die for the sins of the entire world and that whosoever would receive this work as a gift [grace] through faith, would be eternally saved.
I quote the verses where this is taught in scripture:
First – let us consider:
“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the son of man be lifted up: that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved,” John 3:14-17.
This above passage clearly teaches that whosoever believeth in Him [Jesus Christ] should not perish, but have eternal life.
Please do note that it declares they should not perish.
If they [who simply believe] never perish, then they will then remain forever. To “perish” means cease to exist. They then will never be in the place of condemnation ever again! See Romans 8:1.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit,” Romans 8:1.
The scriptures then declare that salvation is a duration of being eternal.
If that which is given is called eternal then one must determine how long is eternal?
Eternal means never ending, and the Bible says His creation will continue forever! It is forever then, and has no end.
Next, if that which is given is termed life, then that speaks about a quality of living. If those who are lost and have not God, never believe in the gospel of the grace of God or Jesus Christ who died for them, then they remain dead in their sins [according to the scriptures], but, they who believe receive “life”.
What is this quality of life? Jesus is life the scriptures declare, in 1 John 5.
“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his son. He that hath the son hath life; and he that hath not the son of God hath not life.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the son of God,” 1 John 5:11-13.
According to the above verses, we discover that Jesus is life, and the believer who simply believes in Jesus, will be receiving life.
We all know that Jesus never dies. Those who receive Jesus will never die, and will always live forever.
The quality of life then is: Jesus Christ. This is exactly why Jesus was able to say in John 4:10-14 to the Samaritan woman coming to draw water.
““If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, give Me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of Him, and He would have given thee living water.”
The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
Jesus answered and said unto her, “Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life,”” John 4:10-14.
It is very clear in the above John 4 verses that Jesus gives living water, and the water is eternal, and then one can understand that the water is Jesus [who is the well] and he who has the well, will spring up into everlasting life.
It really is very simple then, the person who is saved by grace through faith, receiving Jesus Christ, does receive eternal life and He will never perish, but live forever!
Note: To those who do not believe that salvation is eternal and once one receives it he/ she will never die, they are dead and yet in their sins.
What a terrible condition it is to be always thirsty and never satisfied. They literally never ever receive any real satisfaction, and the life they live is not eternal but is really death.
Those who do not have Jesus never live, but those who have Jesus live and will live forever.
After one receives Jesus, who is eternal life, does that then give him the licence to sin?
Many say yes to this because they do not understand one main point:
He who receives Jesus lives… yes, he/ she lives for the first time.
Jesus said to the religious Pharisee, Nicodemus: “You must be born again.”
In John 3:1-10 we read how Jesus told Nicodemus that being born in the flesh could never make one spiritual!
To be spiritual, Jesus said to Nicodemus, one must be totally born again. Going on, He explained that a person who was born only once [in the flesh as a person from their mother’s womb], could not ever understand or even see the kingdom of God.
But, if a person is born of The Holy Spirit……………….
A second time… a spiritual birth…. Then that person would live forever, and would literally be in the Kingdom of God and would understand all things.
This is eternal quality life. It is knowing. It is being changed from flesh to spirit. Just as much as a baby born is fleshly, so a person born again is a baby with spiritual life.
Paul said many were still bottle sucking babies that should have grown up to understanding the deep things of God. But many are babies in understanding.
One thing for sure then, a born again person has been given a new life.
If a person who has passed from death [no life] into eternal life [spiritual understanding], then how could he be the same?
The Bible declares that all who are born again are really created into a new creature, and as such, all things are changed. The old things are passed away, and all things are made new.
So how can one who is eternally saved, every be the same as before?
The Bible declares they cannot ever be the same, because what God has done in them, is eternal.
Conclusion:
The person who is born again and is spiritual is changed forever into a new creature.
This new creature is a living and eternal being, who is destined to be like Jesus Christ. Yes, that is true, all who are saved are pre-destined to be like Jesus Christ!
See it here in Romans 8:
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.
For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover, whom He did predestinate, them He also called: and whom He called, them He also justified: and whom He justified, them He also glorified.
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:28-31.
Too the many who try to say life is gained by living right. Let me say to you…go on and try, but you will never live forever, nor will you be eternally saved and secure…
Until… you understand and know… only in Jesus Christ will men be made like him!
No, men cannot make themselves like Jesus, by their own works, but they must be given life. They must have Jesus Christ, to ever be made in his image.
Yes, the work of God is eternal. A person who is blessed with a new birth in the spirit, based upon the finished work of Jesus Christ [to save men from their sin], will always be saved.
He is always saved, because Jesus Christ lives forever and is… “life” not only will he always be saved, but he will never again want to live like a sinner.
He is a new creature and has received life. How then can one ever be the same?
Closing Scripture
Please read and consider the impact of the following scripture:
“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin,” Romans 6:1-6 KJV.

I have written this teaching word in obedience to The Holy Spirit teacher.
Oh LORD, open the eyes of those who do not believe and are trying to be saved by their own works.
Please LORD, show them that the only way to live forever is Jesus… you LORD. You alone have eternal life!
