Do You Remember When You First Came to The LORD?
When a man and a woman fall in love, they don’t really care about material things; they just care about each other.
Their whole world is filled with one another. They can literally find something about that person in everything around them.
Not a single day goes by without something or someone reminding them that they are… simply… in… love.
But if that couple falls out of love and chooses to divorce, suddenly “things” matter; the house, the furniture, the car, the bank accounts, who gets the dog, who owns what?
The same thing applies with the Church today.
The first century believers didn’t have much, yet they possessed all things, because they were in love with God.
Material things didn’t matter, because they had so much more. But as the centuries passed, everything began to change.
The Church began to be about wealth, power, and status, and suddenly their love for Christ began to dim.
The truth is, the majority of Churches today focus mainly on the material things; keeping their “stuff” instead of focusing on the importance of loving The LORD, their God, with all their heart, soul, and strength, and then loving one another.
Therefore, we can say that the Church has fallen out of love: we have forgotten our first love.
Jesus accused the Church of Ephesus of this very thing. In Revelation 2:4-5, He said to them,
“Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent .”
When you are in love, you don’t care much about material things, but once that which is carnal and passing away becomes important, it’s a sign that you are no longer in love.
Do you remember when you first came to The LORD?
You didn’t care about things; you had Him, and that was enough.
Maybe some of you realize that as time has gone by, you’ve become wrapped up in the things of this life.
I want you to know that once your heart becomes focused on the things of this life, you will fall out of love with God.
So do away your “things”; clear out that space in your heart so that Christ can fill it once again with Himself.
Turn away from that which has kept God from being the source and center of everything.
Return to the love you once had for Him; because those who are in love with Christ are free from the cares of this world.

Amen! I remember that first love, it was full of not only love for the Lord, but incredible love for others! It was almost sappy. Lord let us love you like we did at first! We as your people want that!! And to love others like you do!!
