And my speech and my preaching, was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, 1 Corinthians 2:4. We are called upon today to take another step, into what we are to be in these last days. I don’t know that much was said in days gone by, about this term we see here; “man’s wisdom.” It seems that the writer here might seem to be implying, that there are those who do speak their own wisdom. A study of wisdom in the scriptures, declares that man’s wisdom, is not of God. It doesn’t come from above. It’s earthly and sensual.
It doesn’t seem much just to know about something or to say that we believe in something. The real power, is demonstrating it. I may know how to ride a bicycle and tell you how to do it. But what good is it, if I cannot show you how it’s done. It is one thing to say we do believe in what the apostles taught; however, can we demonstrate what they did. There is an old expression that says, “don’t just tell me, show me.” No one can refute, that we once taught that we had the same power those chosen men of God did. It was the same Holy Ghost as they had; we were to be able to do the same signs, wonders and miracles they did; by that very same Spirit of God.
It appears, that many have forgotten or laid aside, that the ministry once taught us to seek for the gifts of God. We were encouraged to reach for the Spirit and get everything we could; we were told that we could have it all, and that we should have everything that was meant for us by the Spirit and in the Spirit. There was an early church here, just as there was in the beginning over there. I must say, it looks quite different and acts quite different now, than it did in the beginning. Being slain in the Spirit then, was nothing like what is being called the same today. Let’s leave that as is for now.
For some who truly love their comfort zone, it seems boring and too old-fashioned to talk about what we used to have. A spirit says even now; why can’t they just leave that alone. Why do they have to keep bringing up this subject anyway. We like where we are now; nobody cares about it anyway. The Spirit operates in a very different way today. That is not true; it’s man’s wisdom that tries to operate instead of the Spirit. Let us be real. The Holy Ghost never needed a program. He always used those who would follow Him.
We might say we believe in the gifts of the Spirit; but, can we truly demonstrate them. That demonstration and power Paul speaks of here, was what changed the whole world as it was then. And it is the very same thing that will change our world today. If you say that you believe in the laying on of hands for the sick and seeing them recover, then show me how it’s done. If you believe in the casting out of devils, then demonstrate it for me, and others. We must show the lost and injured of this world what we can do in the Spirit; not just say we can. They saw the things that Jesus did.
Let it be proclaimed now, that there is nothing that can compare to the true power and demonstration of the Spirit.
Nothing comes even close. That’s what’s wrong with some of us trying to follow the leading of the Spirit here, and other places. We’ve seen the real thing; and once that happens, you cannot forever be content with less. Many of God’s people are going to come out of it; you wait and see. That hunger is growing; there is a stirring in many of us, that cannot be quieted. It is from the Ancient of Days, and it cannot be denied or suppressed.
You see, God knows who we really are. When He calls now, we simply cannot help but answer.
