Cogito, Ergo Sum or Credo, Eergo Sum?
Cogito, Ergo Sum or Credo, Eergo Sum?
I think, therefore I am, or I believe, therefore I am?
“For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation,” Romans 10:10.
Cogito, ergo, sum is a philosophical statement made by Rene` Descartes which when translated into English means “I think, therefore I am.”
The French philosopher proposed that it is only through our reasoning and our mind’s ability to think and to ponder upon itself, that therefore causes one to know that we exist.
And of course without one’s ability to think and to reason, we then are no different than the wild beasts and animals that roam.
And yet we are much more than people who have the ability to think and to reason. We have an eternal spirit and that is the part of us from which we then believe.
And so I would say, “I believe, therefore I am.” Can gray matter within a brain filled up with 100 billion neurons transmitting signals live forever?
But that which lies much deeper within, that part of us that is us, goes on beyond the grave. And yet one can only say that it is only through the act of belief that one then can grasp the eternal.
To be sure we all have unique personalities and these characteristics cause us to be boisterous, loud, forceful, or calm, demure, or private.
The world around us sees and views each of us as a unique person with our own face and speech.
We are known by the way we speak, think and act. And yet this really isn’t us, for that part is hidden from the world and yet we know of it.
We cannot touch nor see nor use any of our senses to speak of that which is eternal. One’s thoughts and emotions cannot be held in one’s hand, for they have no substance.
But our thoughts denote that which we see and consider in the world around us.
One does not need to try to explain our existence simply through the act of thinking nor of any other way.
For it is also said,
“For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring,” Acts 17:28.

Stephen Hanson of In His Truth Ministries came to the LORD is a special way in 1975 and has prophesied regularly since. In these end-time birthing pangs we are reminded that judgment must first begin with the household of God. Will we be prepared and ready?
Wonderful. Thank you.
