Circumcision is of the Heart
According to Paul’s writings, it is evident that true circumcision is of the heart by the redemptive work of the Holy Spirit within us as he reveals the revelation of Jesus Christ which is the unveiling of Jesus within us.
This is accomplished through the Spirit of Grace (Holy Spirit of God) by faith in the word of God and thus as we, the just, walk by the LAW OF FAITH in receiving the love of the truth as being obedient hearers, to apply these revealed truths, It is then, that His (Jesus) righteousness (nature/character) is birthed within us.
“For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision , which is outward in the flesh: but he is a Jew which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God,” Romans 2:28-29.
“Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the Spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life,” 11 Corinthians 3:6.
When the true authentic seed of Christ Jesus has reach a full maturity within us then the true love of God will be shed abroad in our hearts and demonstrated by the fruit of His Spirit that we bear.
This fruit will manifest in the true son’s and daughters of the most high God walking in the fullness of God who is love. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law, (Galatians 5:22-23).
“For if they are which of the law (Moses) be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise is made of none effect: because the law (Moses) worketh wrath: for where no law is there is no transgression,” Roman 4:14-15.
Now I will break this down to help establish you on the right foundation (Jesus Christ) the only true foundation to be built upon, as well as further establish you in the present truth that you may be rooted and grounded in the faith of the gospel of Christ Jesus.
For it is evident that if the foundation is not right then nothing one builds upon it will stand. Through this teaching, God is strengthening the foundation on which we are being built, on which we stand.
Why are we no longer under the law of Moses and why did this new covenant, which is the law of Christ Jesus had to come about, will further be explained in the below scriptures:
“For circumcision verily profiteth if you keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, the circumcision is made uncircumcision,” Romans 2:24.
“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all,” James 2:10.
“Now we know that what soever the law saith, it saith to them that are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin,” Romans 3:19-20.
Here we see Paul is telling us that the LAW OF MOSES only profits if we keep the whole law, and according to Paul none of us could keep the whole law and if we fall short in one area of it we are guilty of falling short of it all, thus forth we were all found guilty under it, so this law could never justify us nor make us perfect.
This is why we needed the LAW OF CHRIST indwelling us by the power of the Holy Spirit which is the new and better covenant. The whole purpose for the LAW OF MOSES was a schoolmaster to lead us to the LAW OF CHRIST. It clearly did it’s job in showing us our wretched state and that we needed a savior!
Jesus was the only one who could and did fulfill the entire law.
“Is the Law (Moses) then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. But the scripture hath concluded all under sin (guilty) that the promise of faith of Christ Jesus might be given to them that believe. But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed,” Galatians 3:21-23.
“As many as desire to make a fair show in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised: only lest they should suffer persecution ( the real persecution) for the cross of Christ. For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh. But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our LORD Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified to me, and I unto the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature,” Galatians 6:12-15.
Here in these scriptures we see Paul explaining to us this law could not bring life. As if was a open show in the flesh that none which profess to have kept it all did anyway and only wanted to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh.
This is taking the glory from God and what the cross of Christ Jesus actually did for us and placing the glory upon them and their flesh, (which is a pride in itself).
Paul explains if he will glory in anything it would be the Cross of Christ Jesus and that in which he accomplished through it. He further says if I must needs glory, I will glory in the things which concerns mine infirmities (weaknesses/sickness/) (2 Corinthians 11:30).
Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Jesus tells Paul His grace is sufficient for him for His strength is made perfect in weakness (thorn in his flesh to keep him from pride), (2 Corinthians 12:9).
Paul says, “Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ sake: for when I am weak then I am strong,” 2 Corinthians 12:10.
In Acts 15 we see a dispute between a certain sect of the Pharisees and Paul and Barnabus concerning the circumcision and the keeping of the law of Moses in order to for one to be saved. So the Apostles and the elders came together to consider this matter and herein is the conclusion of this dispute:
“But there rose up a certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, that is was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses. And the Apostles and the elders came together to consider this matter. And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, men and brethren, ye know that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the gospel, and believe. And God which knoweth the hearts, bear them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost even as he did unto us; and he put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Now therefore why tempt ye God to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we are able to bear? But we believe that through the grace of the LORD Jesus Christ, we shall be saved even as they,” Acts 15: 5-11.
“Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God; but that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from strangled, and from blood,” Acts 15:19-20.
“For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than the necessary things: that ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if you keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well,” Acts 15: 28-29.
For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John, (Matthew 11:13).
Now herein comes the new covenant with Jesus Christ, THE LAW OF CHRIST JESUS (grace and truth/foundation) by the LAW OF THE SPIRIT which is the ROYAL LAW OF LIBERTY, the law of love being established in our hearts by THE LAW OF FAITH of the living word revealed to us and in our hearts by the Holy Ghost that we sin not against God or man. Along with it these two new commandments.
“Thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it , thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets,” Matthew 22:37-40.
How is the law of the Spirit which is God / love established in our hearts? Is it by keeping the carnal commandments of the old law of Moses or a new and living way? Let’s further examine the scriptures to see what they reveal to us.
“Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twin one new man, so making peace, that he may reconcile both (Jew / Greek circumcised / uncircumsed) unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby,” Ephesians 2:15-16.
“For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. For I through the Law am dead to the law that I might live unto God,” Galatians 2:18-19.
“Wherefore my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him that is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God,” Romans 7:4.
“For by grace you are saved through faith; and not of yourselves: it is a gift of God. Not of works lest any man should boast,” Ephesians 2:8-9.
“For as many as are under the works of the law are under the curse: (simply because no one could keep it all so all was guilty under it) for it is written, cursed is everyone that continued not in all things that are written in book of the law. (No one could why Jesus the savior came) to do them, but that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, the just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but the man that doeth them shall live in them. (No one could) Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written cursed is every man that hangs on a tree: that the blessings of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith,” Galatians 3:10-14.
“For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham or his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. For if they which of the law be heirs, faith is made void and the promise of none effect,” Romans 4:13-14.
In other words Jesus died for nothing if this be the case.
“Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator,” (Christ is the mediator/seed of God that came) Galatians 3:19.
“Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,” Romans 4:16.
“For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth,” Romans 10:4.
“Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: from which some have swerved and turned aside unto vain jangling: Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm,” 1 Timothy 5:7.
“For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself,” Galatians 5:14.
“I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live: yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness came by the law (Moses) then Christ is dead in vain,” Galatians 2:20-21.
Paul said:
“And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith,” Philippians 3:9.
“To the end that he may establish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our father, at the coming of the LORD Jesus Christ with all his saints,” 1 Thessalonians 3:13.
“But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation, because it is written, Be ye holy for I am holy,” 1 Peter 1:15-16.
“Who hath saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before the world began,” 2 Timothy 1:9.
“Then said he Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first that he may establish the second,” Hebrews 10:9.
“Wherefore henceforth know no man after the flesh: yea, through we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth no we him no more. (after the flesh) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away: behold all things become new,” 2 Corinthians 5:16-17.
“Nevertheless we according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, where IN dwelleth righteousness,” 2 Peter 3:13.
“What shall we say the? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, hath obtained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith. But Israel followed after the law of righteousness, hath not obtained to the law of righteousness. Wherefore? because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by works of the law. For they stumbled at the stumblingstone; as it is written, behold I lay in Sion a stumbling-stone and rock of offence:and whosever believeth on him shall not be ashamed,” Romans 9:30-33.
“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; to him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone (cornerstone / foundational stone / Jesus) and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it,” Revelation 2:17.
“In his days, Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely and this is the name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS,” Jeremiah 23:6.
Jesus is that stone that the builders rejected, He is the chief corner stone that many are stumbling over, the very foundation on which we are built and stand.
“Except the LORD build the house, they labor in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman watcheth but in vain,” Psalm 127:1.
“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ,” 1 Corinthians 3:11.
“Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; and built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone,” Ephesians 2:19-20.
Now it is through these above scriptures that we can clearly see that the law of the spirit / holiness / purity is established in our hearts through faith of the Son of God in keeping His Word.
In doing so, it His righteousness that is worked within us as we are rooted and grounded in the present truth of his word and grow in the knowledge of Him until we all come into the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, (love) (Ephesians 4:13), which is seed reaching a maturity and producing the fruit which is the image of God, who is love shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost. We see clearly this love in the face of Jesus Christ.
