Church — Meaning Then and Today
God’s Church Messiah is building, meant much more back in 40-99 AD than it does today.
After the day of Pentecost, when God poured out The Holy Spirit on all flesh, God’s born again saints related this way as Church.
“The believers continued to devote themselves to what the apostles were teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to times of prayer.
A sense of fear/ awe came over everyone, and many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles.
All the believers were united and shared everything with one another. They made it their practice to sell their possessions and goods and to distribute the proceeds to anyone who was in need.
United in purpose, they went to the Temple every day, ate at each other’s homes, and shared their food with glad and humble hearts. They were praising God and enjoying the good will of all the people. Every day The LORD was adding to their number those who were being saved.” Acts 2:42-47.
Paul began his letter the Corinthian Church and us, even though he reproved them and us for sin in the Church.
“To: God’s Church/ Ekklésia in Corinth, to those who have been sanctified by the Messiah Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah — their LORD and ours.
May grace and peace from God our Father and The LORD Jesus, the Messiah, be yours!
You are Rich
I always thank my God for you because of the grace of God given you by the Messiah Jesus. For by him you have become rich in every way—in speech and knowledge of every kind—while our testimony about the Messiah has been confirmed among you. Therefore, you don’t lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus the Messiah to be revealed. He will keep you strong until the end, so that you will be blameless on the Day of our Lord Jesus the Messiah. Faithful is the God by whom you were called into fellowship with his Son Jesus the Messiah, our LORD.” 1 Corinthians 1:2-9 emphasis added.
God called us into fellowship with God’s Son, Jesus the Messiah, our LORD.
“In the Messiah we were also chosen when we were predestined according to the purpose of the one who does everything that he wills to do, so that we who had already fixed our hope on the Messiah might live for his praise and glory. You, too, have heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed in the Messiah,s you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until God redeems his own possession for his praise and glory.” Ephesians 1:11-14.
Just prior to going to the cross for the forgiveness of our sins, Messiah Jesus comforted His disciples and us with this word:
″Philip told him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will satisfy us.”
“Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me?” Jesus asked him. “The person who has seen me has seen the Father. So how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? You believe, don’t you, that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I don’t speak on my own. It is the Father who dwells in me and who carries out his work. Believe me, I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Otherwise, believe me because of what I’ve been doing. Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, the one who believes in me will also do what I’m doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I’m going to the Father. I’ll do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it.
If you love me, keep my commandments. 16I will ask the Father to give you another Helper, to be with you always. He is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor recognizes him. But you recognize him, because he lives with you and will be in you. I’m not going to forsake you like orphans. I will come back to you.” John 14:8-18 emphasis added.
Scripture quoted is from the International Standard Version.
