Would it matter if your Church closed down tomorrow?
Would it matter if your Church closed down tomorrow? It may sound an anathema, but the question is real. What if God asked you that question? If He did, or does, it is not because He does not know the answer. It is because He wants you to know it! Though we tend to forget it, God is omniscient (all knowing), omnipotent (all powerful) and omnipresent (everywhere) and all at the same time. We, are not.
I guess the first reaction to the questions is that we’d get over it quite quickly. We could always find a new Church and who knows, we may even fit in better there. Some for sure would take the opportunity to complete their work of apostasy and give up on God and the Church completely; for them, certainly their path to salvation would end, if it had not ended some time ago.
Let’s look at our own Church in respect of that question: what if it closed down tomorrow? Let’s see how we respond to some other questions.
Jesus gave us the Great Commission in Mark 16:15-18 which says:
“And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world, proclaim the gospel to all the creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned. And miraculous signs will follow to those believing these things: in My name they will cast out demons; they will speak new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will be well.’”
How do we stack up against this Commission? These following questions may help us focus and concentrate on how we are doing for Jesus.
- How many have come to the Lord in your Church in the last twelve months?
- How many missionaries has your Church sent out in the last twelve months?
- How many adult baptisms has you Church performed in the last twelve months?
- How many Children have been added to your Church in the last twelve months?
- How many deliverances from the bondage of Satan has your Church performed in the last twelve months?
- How many times has your Church laid hands on the sick and healed them in the last twelve months? (See also James 5:14-16)
- How many receiving counselling from pastors in your church have been successfully resolved in the last twelve months?
- How many cures for addictions of drugs, sex or homosexuality have been received in your Church in the last twelve months?
- How many have been set free from hypertension or depression in your Church in the last twelve months?
- How many divorces have been avoided in your Church in the last twelve months?
If your answers are mostly nil or negative, read the following words from Jesus from Matthew 25: 31-46
“But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He shall sit on the throne of His glory. And all nations shall be gathered before Him. And He shall separate them from one another, as a shepherd divides the sheep from the goats. And indeed He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats off the left.
Then the King shall say to those on His right hand, Come, blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
For I was hungry, and you gave me food; I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you took Me in; I was naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.
Then the righteous shall answer Him, saying, Lord, when did we see You hungry, and fed You? Or thirsty, and gave You drink?
When did we see You a stranger, and took You in? Or naked, and clothed You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and came to You?
And the King shall answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brothers, you have done it to Me.
Then He also shall say to those on the left hand, Depart from Me, you cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the Devil and his angels.
For I was hungry, and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty, and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take Me in; I was naked, and you did not clothe Me; I was sick, and in prison, and you did not visit me.
Then they will also answer Him, saying, Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to You?
Then He shall answer them, saying, Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into everlasting life.”
In light of the words of Jesus above, answer these questions:
What does my Church do?
What can my Church do?
Time is short dear Brother and Sister and many, many prophets expect the return of Jesus within the next decade. These are the end times. As a result, these are no longer rhetorical questions, they need your answer! And the answers, need you.
To paraphrase U.S. President J. F. Kennedy’s Inauguration Address: “Ask not what your Church can do for you, but ask what you can do for your Church.”
God has placed you in your Church for a time and a reason. This is the time. The Lord Jesus Christ is the reason!!!
Amen and Amen and Amen.
