Calling, Gifts and Offices
Calling, Gifts and Offices
First posted on Facebook on January 7, 2019.
You cannot say you are called because you have the gifts.
Having the gifts never validate any ones calling.
You are only proved to be called when you move to the people and begin to serve them.
Don’t exalt the gifts above the people they are intended for.

On Facebook I posted the above about calling, gifts and offices.
I feel to go back and clarify further what I did mean.
In as much as the first two are biblical terms widely used to define human vessels enablement as it relates to spiritual assignment, the same are confused and misplaced in the manner they are used today.
I would shy from using the term office of the ministry, as it has less biblical backing.
There is divided opinion on the term, but majority of scholars, Christians alike, use it to describe what we see in Ephesians 4:11, of which are ascension graces bestowal upon men.
They could be four or five again, depending on your scholarship.
The term is descriptive rather than theological.
And then we have the “spirituals” translated as gifts of the spirit according to 1 Corinthians 12 given by the same spirit — essentially, gifts in layman’s terms are different methods that enables ministry function.
The calling as I mentioned in previous Facebook post is simply, “the field in which I am called.” You can as well say that it is the “people” — those to whom I am sent, to become my calling.
But I will serve my calling with the “gifts” given to me by the Spirit.
And so the two terms have been used interchangeably, but you can see they are still different in correct application.
Take for example Paul , in Acts 9:15, the Lord speaks unto him his mandate, that he is a chosen vessel to bear his name among the gentiles, kings and the children of Israel.
That become his calling. And he is gifted with power to accomplish in bearing the Name of the Lord to those he is sent to minister.
To be gifted with the spiritual gifts, may not mean you automatically serve the calling. You still need to ask God for your assignment!
Knowing the people you are sent to, qualifies you to access even more levels of authority.
So there is gift on the one side and calling on the other, but the bridge between the two is love, as you cannot avail yourself for those whom you don’t love.
“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,” Ephesians 4:11.
See also 1 Corinthians 12.
“But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel,” Acts 9:15.
